‘Doctor Who’ Upcoming Christmas Special to Quench Fan Thirst for Season 10 Due to Air in Spring of 2017

Season 9 of the British science-fiction TV series “Doctor Who” has already aired last year fans were a bit disappointed to know that the next season would not be happening this year but in 2017.

The 10th season of “Doctor Who” is set to premiere in the spring of 2017 and fans of the hit sci-fi show should be happy to know that the TV series has already been renewed for Season 11 long before its Season 10 is aired.

In addition, fans should also be happy to know that while Season 10 would not be happening this year, they would still be able to get a dose of “Doctor Who” this year with the TV show’s upcoming Christmas Special, slated quite naturally, on December 25.

While the TV series already had nine successful seasons on BBC One in the UK, the upcoming Christmas Special is to be the sixth since the series was revived in March 2005 for its premiere season, notes the Geektown of UK.

According to the site, Season 10 of “Doctor Who” shall be executive producer Steven Moffat’s last before Chris Chipbnall takes over for the series on Season 11. Chipnall would most likely take over for the 2017 Christmas Special of “Doctor Who” before taking full helm of the show in 2018.

All about Christmas Specials

The first Christmas Special of revived “Doctor Who” happened after Season 1 in 2005 and it was titled “The Christmas Invasion.”

It was not until the end of Season 4 in 2008 that the next Christmas Special entitled “The Next Doctor” was aired. Season 5 was aired in April of 2010 so there was another two-part Christmas and New Year Special for “Doctor Who” in 2009 entitled “The End of Time.”

It was not until the end of Season 7 of “Doctor Who” when another Christmas Special was aired featuring Matt Smith as the good doctor. One month before the Season 7 Christmas Special, a 50th Anniversary Special of “Doctor Who” was also aired on November 23.

The fourth Christmas Special was entitled “The Time of the Doctor.”

The fifth Christmas Special happened after Season 8 on December 25, 2014 and the upcoming Christmas Special after Season 9 last year is to be the show’s sixth.

‘Doctor Who’ star in Star Wars spinoff film

The Star Wars franchise will be showing a film spinoff this coming December entitled “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

If it’s any credit to the popular BBC One hit TV series, one of its stars, Spencer Wilding, shall reportedly play the role of Darth Vader in the Star Wars spinoff film, notes Radio Times.

The actor has been in various movies and TV series as a specialist creature performer including “Harry Potter,” “Guardians of the Galaxy,” “Batman Begins,” “Game of Thrones” and “Doctor Who” that critics aver that if the movie or TV series got monsters, it probably has Wilding on it.

Reports have it that Wilding has gotten the biggest baddie role of them all and its Darth Vader. According to sources, Wilding has been reading lines while on set and he was reportedly taken in by the filmmakers of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” because of his 6’7” built that is match for the original Darth Vader actor in David Prowse, who is now 80 years old.

“Doctor Who,” the current TV series, is an evolution of a British TV program that was produced by BBC from way back in 1963.

It is the story and adventures of the Doctor who is a time-travelling humanoid alien as he explores the universe onboard his sentinel time-travelling space ship.

The original British TV program run from 1963 to 1989 or a period of 26 years before it finally signed off the air. There was an attempt to revive the show in 1996 but it was unsuccessful then.
