‘Doctor Who’ Series 10 Starts Filming as Doctor’s New Companion Gets Support from the Erstwhile Companion!

Pearl Mackie, who shall be playing Bill, the new time-travelling companion of the Doctor in the British science-fiction TV series “Doctor Who,” is not just eliciting support from her families and friends for her new role in the popular show but also from actress Jenna Coleman herself.

Coleman played Clara Oswald for three years in “Doctor Who” and she was the time-travelling companion of the good Doctor in a number of exploits and adventures. She left the series last year to move on to other projects.

But she was never remiss in expressing her all-out support to Pearl Mackie during the first day of filming of “Doctor Who” on June 20 by thoughtfully sending flowers to the new companion, reports Entertainment Weekly.

Pearl Mackie proudly shared the image of the bouquet of flowers that Jenna sent to her and saying in the caption that it is a beautiful and thoughtful gift from one companion to another.

Coleman incidentally was able to work with two actors who played the Doctor in “Doctor Who” in a span of three years that she played the role of Clara. She was able to play opposite Matt Smith, the eleventh Doctor and then with Peter Capaldi, who became the series’ 12th Doctor.

Pearl Mackie joins the long line of Doctor time-travelling companions in recent years outside of Jenna Coleman, including Billie Piper, who is now in “Penny Dreadful,” Freema Agyeman, Catherine Tate, and Karen Gillan.

In addition to Mackie, another newcomer who will be joining “Doctor Who” Series 10 is British comedian Matt Lucas. The 10th season of the show will air on BBC America in the spring of next year but not before the one-off special slated to be aired this coming Christmas.

Great news for fans

The start of filming for “Doctor Who” Series 10 early this week is one of the milestone schedules that fans of the show have been waiting for over the last six months, about the last time that they saw Peter Capaldi in the Tardis, notes Radio Times.

“Doctor Who” fans are regarded as among the most loyal of them all and any hint of action on the production end normally calls for a celebration.

While details for “Doctor Who” Series 10 remain scarce at this time, fans are more than happy knowing that filming is now in progress and they can hardly wait for Christmas and the spring of 2017 so that they can get their “Doctor Who” servings once again.

For now, they are just content checking up on the social media posts of the stars of “Doctor Who” to get their latest updates on what’s going on behind the filming of their favorite TV show.

The original immortal is coming back

Incidentally, the original immortal in “Doctor Who,” Captain Jack Harkness, played by actor John Barrowman, is set to make his long-awaited return in Series 10 set to premiere on BBC One in the spring of next year.

The glaring hint of Captain Harkness’ return came no less from the actor himself when he posted on his Facebook page that the Face of Boe might be back on the screens sooner than expected.

It can be recalled that the snarky sex magnet Captain Harkness dropped off the Tardis radar following the conclusion of “Torchwood.”

Incidentally, the actor also showed up in Cardiff recently for a book signing and reports have it that he is set to return to the “Doctor Who” home base.

In a post on social media last month, Barrowman teased that he will be back in Cardiff in about 10 days but he does not want to disclose what it is for.

Meanwhile, despite losing to Chanel Creswell of “This Is England ‘90s” for the Best Supporting Actress plum in the recent BAFTA TV Awards, actress Michelle Gomez, who plays Missy in “Doctor Who” was still in high spirits.
