The producers of “Doctor Who” have always had an interesting approach to the show, keeping things fresh and exciting across separate installments very successfully. And while there have been some weaker moments in the show’s history, that’s practically inevitable for a production that’s been on the screen as long as “Doctor Who”. And now, we’ve been getting some interesting reports about series 10, indicating that the show’s universe is going to expand even more.
Those who’ve been following “Doctor Who” since the beginning shouldn’t be surprised by those claims, as one of the staples of “Doctor Who” is its rich and diverse world, full of interesting enemies and challenges for the characters.
On that note, it sounds like series 10 is going to pit the Doctor against even more difficulties, so hopefully he’s going to be able to handle the pressure. On the other hand, reports also indicate that we could see some new developments in the setting of the show, possibly taking it back to ancient Rome.
A new companion will also join the Doctor’s side, played by Pearl Mackie. Her character will be called Bill Potts, and will be introduced in the beginning of the new series. It also sounds like the producers are trying to bring the show back to its roots to some extent, as the overall style of series 10 is apparently going to be more reminiscent of the earlier seasons, where the focus was on the adventures of the Doctor and his partner.
We might still see some interesting overarching plots, and it would actually be disappointing if that’s not the case. But a return to the show’s basic form, portraying the regular adventures of the Doctor and Bill Potts, should definitely be a nice surprise for most fans. We even expect some who had abandoned the production in recent years to come out of the woodwork to see how it’s been updated for series 10.
That’s one of the great things about “Doctor Who” – the producers have a lot of freedom to alter the basic premise of the show from one series to the next, and as a result no loss of fans is ever truly permanent. While people might take a break from the production for a series or two if they don’t like the newly chosen Doctor or another part of the show, they usually always come back sooner or later once the producers settle on a new, different style.
Some fans have been worried that the showrunners are eventually going to run out of ideas and make the show stale and uninteresting, but considering how long it’s been on air for so far, we certainly don’t have any reason to believe that at the moment.
Series 10 should be a pretty good indication of how well things have been going behind the scenes in this regard anyway, and it will be clear soon enough whether or not the producers still have their “groove”. Hopefully the first episode kicks off on a strong note, as it looks like many people will be watching with an active interest.
In fact, series 10 has apparently managed to generate a lot of hype in the community, and many people are now anticipating its release, seemingly even more than there were for the previous installment. It will be interesting to see if the quality of the new episodes lives up to the expectations of those fans and if the producers handle the new story in a way that’s interesting enough to retain viewers until the end, but the introduction of new enemies and environments should definitely be a pleasant change to most.
