Season 10 of the British science-fiction TV series “Doctor Who” on BBC will be like a soft reboot of the TV series once it returns to the small screen in the spring of next year.
The confirmation came from showrunner Steven Moffat, and lead actors Peter Capaldi, who plays the Doctor, and Pearl Mackie, who shall be playing the new time-travelling companion, Bill, during the recently held New York ComicCon.
The triumvirate told the audience at the New York ComicCon on October 7 that the first episode of Season 10 of “Doctor Who” shall be like the first episode of the entire show, reports Inverse.
Moffatt explained that if there are people who have never watched “Doctor Who” before, they would be in for a real luck because the show would be easy for them to handle.
Without really saying that “Doctor Who” Season 10 is going to be a reboot of the TV series, Moffatt said that the show is going to be brand new.
Responsible for the show’s newness
For his part, actor Peter Capaldi attributed the newness of the upcoming of “Doctor Who” Season 10 because of the presence of the charming Pearl Mackie.
He said that Pearl has come along with an individual take on the role of the Doctor’s time-travelling companion.
Capaldi explained that the upcoming season makes it sound like fans and viewers would be seeing literally everything through Bill’s eyes, much in the same way that viewers were reintroduced to “Doctor Who” back in 2005 with Rose Tyler, played by Billie Piper.
The actress also pointed out that Bill will be introduced to the world of the Doctor and she was actually surprised how well she can relate to her character in “Doctor Who,” even saying that she thinks she knows the girl, referring to Bill.
She also explained that her unfamiliarity with the “Doctor Who” universe is totally connected to her performance as Bill. In describing her own reaction to Capaldi’s Doctor running around the TARDIS pressing buttons like an insane lunatic in space, she said that it was quite bizarre and is, in fact, the maddest thing that ever happened to her, which happens to be what her character was thinking in the show.
A geeky, funny, and vulnerable companion
The actress also said that her character in “Doctor Who” is going to be geeky, funny, and vulnerable too, reports the Den of Geek.
She said that there is goofiness to Bill and a big heart as well. She adds that Bill often gets things wrong and she also has a temper, but Bill actually complements the Doctor in a lot of ways.
Mackie was unable to reveal much in the way of detail about Bill including the origin of her name, or what she does for a living among others. But she said that there is some sort of similarity between her and Freema but Bill is very different from Martha.
A few months back, Pearl Mackie was not just eliciting support from her families and friends for her new role in the popular show but also from actress Jenna Coleman.
Coleman played Clara Oswald for three years in “Doctor Who” and she was the time-travelling companion of the good Doctor in a number of exploits and adventures. She left the series last year to move on to other projects.
But she was never remiss in expressing her all-out support to Pearl Mackie during the first day of filming of “Doctor Who” in June by thoughtfully sending flowers to the new companion.
Pearl Mackie proudly shared the image of the bouquet of flowers that Jenna sent and saying in the caption that it is a beautiful and thoughtful gift from one companion to another.
