Peter Capaldi, the actor who plays the Doctor in the British science-fiction TV series “Doctor Who” on BBC One, said that the upcoming 10th season of the show would be action-packed featuring lots of space exploration, excitement, and drama.
He explained that Season 9 of “Doctor Who” reflected on the modern world so it is possible that there would be more of such plotline for Season 10.
Capaldi explained that it is quite interesting when the show also reflects the changing state of planet Earth.
The actor also explained that it might be a little less emotional but the emotional elements of “Doctor Who” Season 10 will come as a surprise to people, details the Cultbox of UK.
The returnees for Season 10
Reports have it that talented writer Jamie Mathieson will be returning to “Doctor Who” Season 10 following his successful take on the show’s previous episodes entitled “Flatline, “Mummy on the Orient Express,” and “The Girl Who Died” over the past couple of years.
BBC One has yet to make an official statement to either confirm or deny the return of Mathieson but the speculations are saying that the scribe is going to be back.
Matt Lucas shall also come back for “Doctor Who” Season 10 and he will be taking on the role of a companion throughout the entire 10th season.
It has already been confirmed that Michelle Gomez, who plays Missy a.k.a The Master would be back in Season 10.
In a recent interview, Gomez said that she would be starting back on “Doctor Who” soon. As to which episode shall Missy return remains to be seen.
According to reports, filming for Season 10 of “Doctor Who” is now one-third complete and Missy has yet to show up in the set, which means that she would come out in the second half of the season.
Viewers of “Doctor Who” have not seen Missy since episodes 1 and 2 of Season 9, which is like ages ago.
Premiering in the spring of 2017
“Doctor Who” Season 10 shall premiere on BBC One in the spring of 2017 but the network has yet to come out with a specific release date.
However, there will be at least one “Doctor Who” episode in 2016 through the Christmas special which would come out on December 25, 2016.
Peter Capaldi also confirmed to a fan that the Doctor would be making a return to BBC One on Christmas and then it starts again in April.
Meanwhile, there are reports saying that Season 10 of “Doctor Who” is going to be the final year of showrunner Steven Moffatt.
In a recent interview, Moffatt said that he would be finishing up on the best job in the universe and keeping the TARDIS warm for new showrunner Chris Chibnall.
Chibnall said that upon hearing Moffat’s plans and stories for “Doctor Who” Season 10, he knew that the showrunner is planning to go out from the show with a bang. Moffat clarified that the reason why he is leaving the show after the tenth season is because he would be focusing on other pre-occupations.
There are also reports saying that Peter Capaldi is reportedly planning to leave the series after Season 10. But it has been debunked by Steven Moffat, who said that he has no reason to write out a Doctor, adding that Peter loves the role, as the 12th Doctor, and it could be his for as long as he wishes to do so.
When Capaldi said that Season 10 could be his final year, Moffat remarked that the actor is not going anywhere.
Reports have it that the actor has agreed to stay for at least one more season but he previously said that he was keen on completing three years playing the Doctor to round off his storylines.
Incidentally, Season 10 of “Doctor Who” on BBC One will be like a soft reboot of the TV series once it returns to the small screen in the spring of next year.
