Dishonored 2 Coming at EGX 2016, How Has the Game Evolved Since the Original? Let’s See

After much speculation about the future of “Dishonored”, we finally have news about a sequel! Fans will be delighted to know that the game will make its first appearance at this year’s EGX, so those who want to check it out first hand should see if they can get a spot reserved.

While we have various details about the game, a lot of it still a mystery, and we expect that Bethesda will dig into the new title in a little more detail during their presentation. Of course, fans have been speculating about the game for months now, and it looks like there is plenty of excitement about it all over the industry.

Various changes are planned for the new release, and it’s going to take things in a slightly different direction in some regards. For example, the game will offer an all-new protagonist as a choice, although the original Corvo will still be there. Now, players will also get to choose to play as Empress Emily Kaldwin, who will have a different playstyle, allowing gamers to experience the game as they wish.

It seems like both characters will have some unique abilities, and the implication is that one of them will be more focused on stealth, while the other will play the game in a similar way to the original. On the other hand, previews also seem to imply that those skills will be interchangeable between the two characters, so the situation isn’t entirely clear.

But the important thing to take away from this is that Bethesda have obviously been listening. One of the main complaints people had about the first “Dishonored” was about the way the game’s setting clashed with its gameplay. It was presented as a stealth game, but in reality all of the player’s abilities predisposed to just killing everyone on the level.

It was still possible to complete the game with a stealth run, but many saw it as a limited option, taking away many of the fun components that the developers had obviously spent a lot of time perfecting. If “Dishonored 2” manages to get a good mix between stealth and carnage, it should be the perfect response to the criticism aimed at the first title.

The art style of the game seems quite impressive too, from what we’ve seen in promotional materials. The developers have moved on to a new engine, and the game has a new art director as well, but at the same time the characteristic style of the first “Dishonored” has been preserved.

Not only that, it has obviously evolved, as the new game seems to place an emphasis on the features that grabbed most people’s eyes in the first game, building on top of them and expanding the impressive visuals even further. As long as every other aesthetic component is good – including the sound design – this should be a fantastic, immersive experience.

We’ve been hearing some interesting rumors about the level design as well, with claims that the developers have made the game much more open and with an emphasis on player choice.

Dishonored 2

Will we finally get to craft our own story as we pass through the many levels of “Dishonored 2”, much like people expected from the first game? Or will we be taken on an experience that borders to being on rails? The openness of the first “Dishonored” was undeniable, but at the same time many felt like it was a gimmick more than an actual feature.
