Did The Mentalist Season 7 Give Fans a Satisfying Conclusion

“The Mentalist” finished its run about a month ago, with the airing of the final episode of season 7 concluding the story. A lot of intricate subplots came up over the course of the show, and the story was developed with a lot of tension and drama, a combination which drew lots of fans. At the same time, the show took a premise that had already proven successful in another production – “Psych” – and gave it a darker, more serious twist.

Compared to the lighthearted nature of “Psych”, this made “The Mentalist” a unique show of its own, and even though it was criticized for being too similar to “Psych” in its first episodes, the show quickly found its own place and branched out on its own. It was clear that the producers of “The Mentalist” were willing to put their main characters through a lot more than other crime procedurals, which was part of the show’s strong appeal for many.

With all that in mind, did season 7 give fans the ultimate conclusion they were hoping for, or did it leave them hanging and wishing for more? According to the majority of reviews and fan opinions that have been posted online since the episode aired, the producers of “The Mentalist” actually did a fantastic job wrapping up the story and tying up all loose ends, and even though some fans were expecting a bit more drama and conflict in the final episode, the conclusion they were given was still good enough.

Jane and Lisbon decide to get married after Jane proposes to her, while at the same time it’s revealed that Lazarus (Joe Keller) was not actually killed in the explosion, and starts hunting for Jane to get revenge. He manages to find Jane right at his wedding, walking through the front door where he’s met by a team of FBI agents and the marrying couple themselves, all waiting for his arrival, ready to arrest him.

Later on, as the party progresses, Lisbon announces that she’s pregnant. Jane initially seems a bit shocked, but quickly regains his composure and hugs his new wife, ending the show on a beautiful, positive note and pretty much giving fans all they’ve wanted to see from their favorite characters.

While some of the more critical reviewers noted that the conclusion was slightly predictable, everyone seemed pleased with how the show turned out overall, and it’s clear that the writers had put a lot of effort into making sure that all sides of the story are examined, not just the most popular subplots that fans were discussing all the time. In the end, even though the show started out on a questionable note, it concluded as one of the best productions on TV, much like its inspiration “Psych” did.
