Did a Select Audience Get a Preview of the Samsung Galaxy S6 at CES 2015

While there were rumors that Samsung might show their new Galaxy S6 for the first time at this year’s CES, the event came and passed without any such announcements from the company during its several days. And yet, according to sources, this wasn’t exactly the case – Samsung allegedly did bring the Galaxy S6 for a preview, but not a public one. The device was reportedly shown to a select small audience behind closed doors, and some were invited to the event for this revelation specifically.

According to those who’ve had a chance to see the device, one of the reasons Samsung weren’t ready to show it to the public yet is the fact that the phone is actually not finished at the moment. Its physical design is still being considered, with two main versions that the company is trying to decide between. Both were reportedly shown at the private preview, although it’s not known if Samsung have expressed a preference towards any of the two designs, or which one is more likely to make it to the market in the end.

The two designs were reportedly radically different, with one featuring a metal unibody, something that was rumored for a long time about the S6, while the other was reminiscent of the Galaxy Note 4, with a detachable plastic cover on the back, but a metal frame on the front.

While the company hasn’t made its final decision on the device’s design yet, it seems that this was actually one of the reasons they wanted to show it to somebody outside of the company, in order to get some additional input on the two versions. Apparently, opinions on the two designs have been collected at the showing, and the company is planning to use them when deciding what to bring out in the end. It’s not likely that Samsung will involve outside opinions in any other aspect of the device’s design at this point, as the rest of its specifications have allegedly been decided on.

Samsung Galaxy S6

The new Samsung Galaxy S6 reportedly comes with a fingerprint scanner and UV sensor, a new battery design that offers extra fast charging times, and a microSD slot for memory expansion. It’s rumored to be quite powerful beneath the surface, and will be a more serious entry to the Android market than Samsung’s previous offerings, although it’s not known what the phone’s exact specifications are going to be yet. The Galaxy line isn’t traditionally known as a powerhouse on the Android market, so Samsung will likely not try to compete with devices like the HTC One M8, but the Galaxy S6 could still turn out to be quite the serious phone.
