Electronic Arts and DICE are currently engulfed in designing Star Wars Battlefront 3, which is simply called Star Wars: Battlefront. However, unknown to many, game developer Free Radical was working on the next title in the Star Wars franchise when their project was terminated near 98% of completion due to unknown reasons.
Very recently, the first unofficial trailer for the game released on YouTube, and even though the gameplay looks promising, we cannot confirm whether this is what the final version will look like.
However, much work remains to be completed. The trailer, for example, looks incomplete and for valid reasons too. Initial reports claim that the game is being designed on the Frostbite 3 engine and insiders reveal that Star Wars Battlefront 3 is DICE’s interpretation of the franchise.
Numerous additional features and changes are hence likely to be introduced, even though the base characteristics of the Star Wars franchise will be preserved. Star Wars Battlefront 3 was considered a lost cause until DICE decided to work on it.
YouTuber “BananaSwag” has posted two pre-Alpha stage videos of the previous title of the game that was being designed by Free Radical. DICE however has started the project afresh, but this gives gamers the chance to evaluate progress by comparing the two. You can watch the trailer for additional information on Star Wars Battlefront 3.
The game was cancelled by Lucasarts before Free Radical was sold off to Crytek and renamed Crytek UK. However, gamers might notice that both videos feature numerous frame drops. This is not unusual in a pre-alpha version.
The videos throw light on the in-game menus, maps and other technical features that were to be unveiled in the full version of the game. The game was ported from the Windows PC to Microsoft Xbox 360 and was designed back in 2012 but unlike most trailers of the game, this one holds significant importance.
The second video further showcases a few slightly improved scenes from the multiplayer version, although, the frame drop issue is clearly visible. Considering the fact that this is a pre-Alpha version of the game, this is nothing to worry about.
DICE is pretty confident about Star Wars Battlefront 3 and have even referred to it as a “match made in Heaven.” We would love to test this claim as soon as the game is available for testing. Electronic Arts revealed in June this year that Endor and Hoth would be added as playable maps in the upcoming installment, which is good news for all the gamers.
