Indeed, Blizzard are much more active in combating botting than other studios on the market with their respective games, and they seem very determined to help their players enjoy a bot-free situation. In the end, the company can only do so much without affecting the experience of everything negatively, so they are probably treading a fine line.
There is a lot going on in the community of Blizzard’s fans right now and people seem divided over the issue, so we don’t know where the situation is going to end up. Blizzard might decide to take more active measures to resolve the problem, and this could have some harsher implications on the game as a whole.
Hopefully, they aren’t going to decide to do anything that would downgrade the gameplay experience for legitimate players, as this is definitely a possibility if the studio wants to take a harsher stance against botters.
Blizzard are also a creative studio with some original ideas coming out of there, so we wouldn’t be surprised if they also did something more unusual that nobody has thought about previously. They do have some options for resolving the situation with tighter control and less collateral damage, but it will take some effort on their part – and we’re not sure how far Blizzard are actually willing to go in this regard.
