Devious Maids is roughly based on the Mexican series Ellas son la Alegría del Hogar. It is also inspired from executive producer Marc Cherry’s Desperate Housewives. The show focuses on four maids who are employed by the rich and famous of Beverley Hills, California, but have individual dreams and ambitions.
When the Pilot Episode aired in Lifetime, the producers were not sure about how the viewers would respond to a concept that might be racist and sexist in some aspect, but so far the viewers have been very kind. The 10 pm slot on ABC where Devious Maids was aired has gained much popularity. Fans feel that it’s a brilliant concept, combining emotions, scandals and humour to create a heady mixture.
With the second season of Devious Maids ending in July, 2014, show runners Marc Cherry, Brian Tanen and Ric Swartzlander didn’t lose any time in announcing Devious Maids Season 3. The last season ended on a cliffhanger. The writers are sure to create Devious Maids Season 3 in a way that will live up to the hype generated by the previous two seasons.
Devious Maids saw Desperate Housewives’ Eva Longoria debut as an executive producer. There was a lot of slander and criticism against her because of the stereotypical portrayal of Latinas in the show, but she defended Devious Maids. Devious Maids season two saw Eva Longoria come on board as a director for the Premiere Episode. There is no official word of her being on board for Devious Maids 3.
Devious Maids Season 3 will star Ana Ortiz, Roselyn Sanchez, Diana Ramirez and Judy Reyes as the maids. The supporting cast include Brianna Brown, Brett Cullen, Grant Show, Drew Van Acker, Matt Cedeno, Rebecca Wisocky, Melinda Page Hamilton, Tom Irwin and Susan Lucci. Devious Maids Season 3 witnesses Gilles Marini, joining in as a revered member of the cast.
The immense popularity of the show can be judged by the fan frenzy and media attention garnered by the cast members at Variety’s Power of Women event. The leading ladies of Devious Maids were spotted alongside Eva Longoria. Also spotted at the event were Jennifer Lopez and Reese Witherspoon.
Devious Maids Season 3 had to overcome issues with the licensing fee. This season is going to explore Carmen and Sebastian’s relationship. The previous season saw Carmen having a one night stand with him after the two met at a bar. Marini’s Sebastian had promised Carmen a meeting with a record producer, only to reveal the following morning that the record producer was none other than his wife.
