“Destiny” is about to get yet another major expansion, with lots of new content coming to the game thanks to “The Taken King” – and of course, players have been very eager to get their hands on the new content package and start exploring its new features. There are a couple of weeks left until the big day arrives, and previews of the new expansion have already been very positive, while the game’s player numbers have been growing as people have been coming back to brush up on their skills before they dive into the new content.
It’s not just about new content – the main game will be changed quite a bit, and players will have to prepare themselves to deal with some of the new gameplay modifications. It’s also worth noting that the new expansion requires the previous ones to be installed, so players who still haven’t gotten the old expansion packs should probably prepare themselves before September 15.
The feature that players have been talking about quite a lot is the new class system – the game will now allow players to develop “sub-classes” which will increase the gameplay depth significantly, and it’s expected to be a change that will have serious repercussions to the overall gameplay. For example, those who like the Hunter class will now be able to fine-tune it into a more support-oriented role, while other classes will also see an expansion in their capabilities, putting them in new situations and forcing players to leave their comfort zones.
But of course, that’s not the most notable feature of this expansion – the thing that players have been discussing the most is the new Raid, “King’s Fall”, which is going to be an amazing gameplay experience from what we’ve been able to tell from all the previews. Sadly, players will have to wait a while before they’re able to play the new Raid, as it will not actually make it into the main release.
We don’t know how long it will take for Bungie to add the new Raid – hopefully there won’t be any unexpected delays – but the fact that it’s not included at launch could have the potential to damage the reception for the new expansion, as some players have been specifically waiting for the expansion for this specific part, and they have already been expressing their disappointment online after realizing that they won’t get to play the new content at launch. Still, there is plenty more for those players to do and explore, and the expansion should do just fine at keeping them busy for a while until the Raid releases.
Exotics are going to be changed in the new update too, and this includes some significant alterations to the balance of older weapons that have been in the game for a long time. Some exotics will have a complete shift in their purpose, changing them to a more defensive or offensive role as appropriate, and the game will also see some new additions to its list of weapons.
A new blueprint system will also give players more options for acquiring the exotics that they’re interested in, something that has been requested for a long time by the community – and it’s good to see that Bungie have been listening. There do seem to be some potential balance issues with the new crafting system that players have been pointing out, but of course we aren’t going to know how it truly works until we’ve had a chance to play with it for a while.
