Fans of “Destiny” have been getting some good and bad news lately, although not everything is confirmed right now and it’s possible that the negative side of the situation is just a misunderstanding. A recent reddit post revealed that the exclusivity for items introduced in “The Take King” has been extended for another year without any explanation from Bungie. While the situation is still not clear, some fans are upset and claim that they are disappointed in the studio. It seems like the issue for most fans is not the actual exclusivity, but rather the lack of communication from Bungie’s side.
Meanwhile, the company has released a brand new trailer for the upcoming “Rise of Iron” addition for the game. Fans seem quite impressed with the trailer, and many are expecting the new content to revive their interest in the base “Destiny”. It’s coming out at a great time in this regard, as the game has been losing player numbers recently, as players are likely getting tired of the available content already.
Still, the title has been able to retain its players quite well considering it came out two years ago, and “Rise of Iron” is sure to improve the situation with player numbers significantly. Many players thought that “The Taken King” would be the ultimate DLC for that game, but it looks like they were wrong, as the new set of content looks really expansive and polished.
It’s currently scheduled for release on September 20, so players will get a chance to explore the new content in just one month. This also gives Bungie enough time to get everyone even more hyped up, while at the same time they can also address the situation with the planned exclusivity.
Some players are worried that by the time they have access to the exclusive items, there will already be talks about “Destiny 2” and there will be no point in that content anymore. Indeed, there are already plans for a full-scale sequel to be released in 2017, but nothing has been specified about it other than that. It also sounds like “Rise of Iron” will be the last major DLC for the game, and afterwards the development team will focus their efforts on the next game.
Bungie don’t want to reveal the full details of “Rise of Iron” right now, but they’ve given various statements indicating that they are treating this as the most important content release for this game. It makes sense too, as this DLC is what many players will remember the game by, since it will be the last major piece of the puzzle that they get. Hopefully it’s an enjoyable experience and doesn’t feel like it was just quickly pumped out to get some extra cash out of the game before it dies. But from everything we’ve seen about the new DLC so far, that definitely doesn’t seem to be the case.
We’re not sure how much of the current content will be carried over to “Destiny 2”, if any. It’s standard for major shooters to include references to their previous installments, and it’s not out of the question that we might see some maps or weapons from the current DLCs make their way into the new game. Players would enjoy that, as long as it’s done in a tasteful way and not as a simple copy/paste job.
