“Destiny” has been out for quite a while now, and the game is still enjoying a lot of attention. This is partly due to the ongoing support from its developers, and the recently released “Rise of Iron” only managed to solidify that impression. Players have been having a lot of fun with the expansion, and even though it still needs some extra polish here and there, it’s a very successful release in the eyes of most.
Impressions on the new DLC vary from one review to the other, but most seem to share the opinion that there is a lot of content that offers great value, and the new expansion is a worthy successor to “Taken King”.
Some have pointed out that there is actually less variety in the things players can do in the game’s world with the new DLC, but that hasn’t stopped them from having lots of fun with it, especially in large raiding parties. The game is still as fun as ever at its core, and it offers everything that initially drew players to it, plus more.
According to some reviewers, those who still haven’t checked out “Destiny” in a party and are playing solo should have no excuses at this point, as “Rise of Iron” makes the experience even better. The game has always had a strong social aspect, so it makes sense that Bungie would want to emphasize it even more in their newest DLC.
In fact, there seem to be some negative impressions of the value of solo gameplay offered in the new DLC, and it looks like those who prefer to go at it alone may find themselves handicapped to some extent.
We suspect that those players have gotten used to the idea at this point though, and they won’t be too bothered by missing out on some of the team-oriented content such as the Archon’s Forge. There is still plenty to see and do in the world of “Destiny” besides that, and the new DLC makes this even truer.
There are of course some criticisms aimed towards the new content, mostly regarding the way the balance works. For example, the new ability to remove sprint cooldown seems to change the game in a surprisingly positive way, to the extent that some players don’t want to go back to playing without it.
While it may sound a little extreme, we can think of other similar examples in gaming in the past – such as the removal of stamina in “Diablo”, which was very positively received. Hopefully Bungie are going to revisit some of the aspects of the game’s balance for the next content release.
On the other hand, even though the quality of social play has been improved in “Rise of Iron”, there are reportedly some problems with Archon’s Forge that make it a messy experience. This could be particularly problematic for newer players who’re just now experiencing everything for the first time, but they should also have some guidance from their friends in that case.
Another change that came with the new update and raised some eyebrows is the increase of green engrams’ drop rate. This was seen as an odd move by some, but the previous situation was apparently a bug and was never meant to be like that, which is why Bungie are addressing it now and have also included some in-game information to justify the decision. Whether or not players will be happy with the way resources are balanced now remains to be seen.
