Just when nearly everyone was already saying that Derrick Rose is back especially with his 30-point performance in the Bulls game against the Cavaliers before the NBA All-Star break, comes a news bummer involving the All-Star point guard.
On February 24, the Chicago Bulls announced that Derrick Rose will undergo a serious knee surgery to repair the medical meniscus in his right knee, details Yahoo! Sports.
The knee surgery is the third for Rose in the last three years after his MVP performance during the 2010-11 NBA season where the Chicago Bulls made it all the way to the Eastern Conference finals only to lose to eventual champion, the Miami Heat.
Rose told team officials about the nagging pain in his right knee during practice and he was immediately sent to undergo an exam and MRI where the tear in his medial meniscus on his right knee was discovered.
The team has not a set a time table for his recovery but it is likely that he will be missing the rest of the season the same way he did during the past two seasons where he was not able to complete it at all.
Same problem
Initial reports indicate that the tear in his medial meniscus on his right knee found on February 24 was not as substantial as the meniscus tear that forced Derrick Rose to miss all but 10 games of the 2013-14 NBA season.
It will be the third unfortunate knee injury for Rose in a span of three years. He suffered a tear in the ACL of his left knee in the first game of the 2011-12 playoffs that kept him out of the post season and the full 2012-13 season. Ten games into the 2013-14 season, he suffered a tear in the medial meniscus on his right knee.
Rose returned to action last summer and even played for Team USA during the FIBA World Cup in September 2014 in Barcelona, Spain.
He has played in 46 of the 57 Bulls game this season, missing 11 of them due to various ailments.
Rose looks very healthy and showed signs of his brilliant form while he was playing but he was lacking in consistency. It turns out finally that the right knee is still bothering him which explained his good game bad game cycle during the current NBA season.
Felt bad for Rose
Fellow NBA superstars expressed disappointment over the news that Derrick Rose will undergo a knee surgery yet again.
Immediately upon learning of the news, Cavaliers superstar LeBron James sent out a tweet saying that he feels bad for D. Rose. He advised the 26-year-old Bulls point guard to keep his head up and just stay strong.
Russell Westbrook, of the Oklahoma City Thunder and the All-Star MVP this year, said on NBA TV that he was speechless upon learning that Rose will have to undergo a knee surgery again.
He said he also feels bad for the Bulls superstar because the guy was already getting back in the groove. Westbrook said he can commiserate with Derrick of going through it again and again and said that he will just pray for him so that he will try to keep his spirits up.
