It’s been a while since we’ve heard about “Darksiders” in the news, but the game’s fans definitely haven’t forgotten about it – and now, they’re going to be treated to a pleasant surprise. Developers have apparently been hard at work on a remastered edition of “Darksiders 2”, scheduled for launch this winter. However, even though the development has been handed off to another studio – Gunfire Games – looking at the credits list makes it obvious that many of these people are part of the original team that worked on “Darksiders” before their studio closed.
Gunfire Games have posted an announcement which confirms this as well, stating that most of their team members are originally from Vigil Games, and they said that working on the new game with them is “like hanging out with an old friend”. They are apparently very excited to be involved in the remastering, and they have reportedly put quite a lot of effort into their work on the game until now.
The new developer has made the promise that the game will retain its original extreme difficulty, despite looking prettier – and without doubt more accessible – as they realize that the challenge was one of the aspects that made the original so attractive to many people. The game will be mostly upgraded in the graphics department, featuring a brand new 1080p resolution, and assets appropriately scaled to match it as well.
However, they have apparently tweaked the gameplay to some extent as well, as they do mention some gameplay improvements that are supposed to bring the game closer to modern releases in terms of intuitiveness and polish. All in all, it sounds like the changes are aimed at polishing the rough edges of the original, fixing small details that the developers of “Darksiders 2” never had a chance to address themselves before.
In addition, they are also in the planning stages for a new game based on the universe of “Darksiders”, but it might not be part of the actual franchise. In any case, any information we get about this game will come after the release of the “Deathinitive Edition” of “Darksiders 2”.
And at this moment we have no clue when that’s supposed to happen – Gunfire Games have reassured their fans that the game is coming in the winter, but they haven’t given any official release date yet. It’s likely that they will release it during the holiday season if they’re aiming for a winter release, as that tends to be the most popular period for bringing new games to the market.
