That was never the intention of the original games anyway – “Dark Sous” has always been a relatively niche franchise, aimed at a select range of players who know what they want in terms of difficulty and are willing to give themselves a bit of an extra challenge in the name of fun.
Not everyone finds this type of gameplay fun, sure – but there are plenty of players that do, enough to warrant a full sequel done in pretty much the same style. It’s also worth noting that there has been a lot more attention towards the idea of difficult games lately, and this could reflect positively on the performance of “Dark Souls III” on the market.
We’ll see in April 2016 once it comes out, but so far many players are very positively charged towards the new game and it looks like it’ll be a massive hit as long as the developers play their cards right with the actual release.
Let’s hope that the title will match expectations all the way, because it could also lay the foundations for an even more exciting sequel later on. The franchise is obviously something that the producers want to explore right now, and they would be pretty smart to do so too, judging by all the attention that’s currently focused on “Dark Souls III”. The previous games in the series have been getting a lot of discussion lately as well.
