‘Dark Souls 3: Ashes of Ariandel’ DLC Pack to Envelope Players with a Feeling of Uncertainty and Mystery

The first of two DLCs to the action role-playing game “Dark Souls 3” officially titled “Ashes of Ariandel” shall be hitting the PlayStation 4, the Xbox One, and the PC on October 25.

The official release date of the DLC pack has been announced by game developer From Software during the Tokyo Game Show held last month.

The first DLC shall be arriving a little over five months after the worldwide release of “Dark Soul 3” in April this year, but six months from the time it was released in Japan in March 2016.

A number of critics and enthusiasts are fortunate enough to be given the opportunity to have a gameplay walkthrough of the latest DLC of “Dark Souls 3” and they were treated to new areas in the game that enveloped them with a feeling of uncertainty and mystery.

But after a short period of time of acclimatization, most of the players were able to recognize the familiar enemies that showed up in “Ashes of Ariandel” expansion pack, notes WCCF Tech.

Gamers of “Dark Souls 3” are obviously one of the more enthusiastic bunch of players and they would like to explore the expansion pack of the game right from the get-go even though they know that it is just a gameplay walkthrough and not the full DLC.

After all, “Dark Souls 3” is a critically and commercially successful video game and serves as the fitting conclusion to the “Dark Souls” franchise. When it was launched by game developer Bandai Namco first in Japan in March then worldwide a month later, it went on to become the fastest selling game in its history, shipping over three million copies worldwide just two months after its official release.

Extremely excited with the DLC arrival

After having the opportunity to play the gameplay demo of the “Ashes of Ariandel” DLC pack, most critics felt extremely excited with its arrival.

The demo only showcased a small portion of the game which was less than 20 minutes long but it was more than enough to satiate the gamers’ and critics’ thirst and excitement for the new addition to “Dark Souls 3.”

It only fueled their desire to grab the DLC once it officially comes out in three weeks time, which would cost them $14.99. However, those who bought “Dark Souls 3” Season Pass would have the new DLC for free.

The second DLC shall come out early in 2017 but From Software has yet to disclose the exact date of its release.

A style and theme separate from the base game

What seems very exciting and enticing for “Ashes of Ariandel” according to From Software president Hidetaka Miyazaki himself is the fact that the DLC has got style and a theme that is completely separate from the base game.

The gameplay demo that was showcased during the Tokyo Game Show last month saw the setting of the game on a vast snowy field which was never present at all in “Dark Souls 3.”

Those who were able to play the demo are also one in saying that the setting in the DLC is much more wide open than most environments in the base game, providing a huge space to explore in any direction.

Miyazaki describes it as very mysterious and a little bit unique too. He explained that he was actually aiming for a gothic flavor in the DLC setting to make it stand apart from the core game. But both shall be shared by the two upcoming DLC packs, notes Polygon.

The From Software top honcho said that just the wolf packs alone in “Ashes of Ariandel” are definitely enough to bring new gameplay experience for gamers of “Dark Souls 3.”

Dark Souls 3

Another very interesting thing about the upcoming DLC is the fact that it has some throwbacks to the first “Dark Souls” game and long-time fans and players of the franchise are sure to notice when they enter the new zone called the “Painted World of Ariandel.”

They are sure to remember an extensive side area called the “Painted World of Ariamis” where players actually entered a painting in the game.
