Dallas Mavericks May Go After Jeremy Lin if They Can’t Re-sign Monta Ellis

No less than Dallas Mavericks German superstar Dirk Nowitzki said that if there is one player in the team whom he thinks can help the scoring load for the team other than him, it’s definitely Monta Ellis.

During the NBA All-Star weekend, Dirk was also asked who among his teammates he thinks should be part of the West All-Star team, and he said without blinking an eye that it’s Monta Ellis.

However, the 10-year veteran point guard and shooting guard is going to be a free agent in the next couple of weeks and reports have it that he is looking for options other than playing again for the Dallas Mavericks.

While the Mavericks still has Rajon Rondo on its point guard roster as well as JJ Barea, it is unlikely that Rondo will be back in Dallas uniform come the next NBA season after his famous spat with Mavericks head coach Rick Carlisle. There are also reports saying that Rondo is headed to the Los Angeles Lakers to play alongside the returning Kobe Bryant who intends to make the 2015-16 NBA season his last hurrah.

With Monta Ellis out of the point guard slot, Dallas needs someone to fill the spot and given the options in the free agency market, the Mavericks may actually consider going after Jeremy Lin and give the frontrunning Denver Nuggets a run for the money, cites the Vine Report.

Lin would be a good addition to the Mavericks with their run-and-gun offense which is much to Jeremy Lin’s style of play.

But it is unlikely that Dallas will offer him a $25 million three-year contract that the Houston Rockets offered the Harvard graduate when they signed him up in 2012.

Going to Mile High

However, the prospect of Jeremy Lin suiting up for the Denver Nuggets now looms high on the horizon following the decision of the Mile High franchise to trade point guard Ty Lawson.

Reports have it that the Nuggets want to use Lawson as trade leverage before the June 25 NBA draft so that the team can get another high pick, in addition to their current 7th pick in the upcoming draft.

It is also likely that the Lawson deal would further be sweetened with the inclusion of power forward Kenneth Faried.

By looking to do away with point guard Ty Lawson, it is likely that the Denver Nuggets are already working to make room for the possible acquisition of point guard Jeremy Lin from the free agency this coming off-season.

Reuniting with coach

This notion is further reinforced by the fact that the Mile High basketball franchise is looking to take in Mike D’Antoni as its new head coach for the next NBA season.

jeremy lin

D’Antoni was the coach of Jeremy Lin during his short-lived Linsanity days with the New York Knicks during the 2011-12 NBA season. In an interview a couple of week ago, D’Antoni said that he would like to have Jeremy Lin in his team if he is given the opportunity to do so.

  1. Definitely would be better off with the Mav then any other team. Going to any other team would mean that he would the the only one really scoring. I think playing with former teammates will definitely bring the sync game on faster. I really hope that Jeremy picks a team that will get him to finals rather than for the money but who knows.
