Ronda Rousey no longer has a worthy opponent in the UFC. After defeating Cat Zingano in just 14 seconds in the main event of UFC 184 last month, she has installed herself as the best there is in the woman’s division.
But that is only as far as the UFC’s roster of woman fighters is concerned. Because apparently, some of the best female fighters in mixed martial arts (MMA) can actually be found on the Invicta Fighting Championships or Invicta FC.
Invicta FC is an American MMA organization for women fighters founded in 2012 founded by Janet Martin and Shannon Knapp.
The best female fighter
In particular, Brazilian Cristiane Justino, or better known as Cris Cyborg, who has been holding the featherweight championship in Invicta FC since July 13, 2013, would like to get a crack at Ronda Rousey’s seeming invincibility in the octagon and prove who between them is the best female fighter in the sport.
Cris Cyborg is fighting at the 145-pound weight class while Rousey is playing at the 135-pound division.
Because Rousey has practically run out of worthy opponents in the UFC, there have been talks going around the sport that the only other female fighter worthy of fighting for her is Cris Cyborg.
At this point, the fight is only theoretical in nature since UFC and Invicta FC are two different MMA organizations and there is no way that a unification bout is possible unless UFC president Dana White and his counterpart at Invicta FC work something out soon enough.
The only way the fight can happen without any contractual glitch is for Cris Cyborg to move to the UFC after her contract with Invicta FC ends. Or if Rousey moves to Invicta FC, which is next to impossible considering how White intends to keep his woman prize fighter to his fold for a long time.
War of words
Despite the improbability of fighting between the two female champions at this time, the war of words have been escalating of late as one takes potshot against the other at every chance she can get.
Rousey was previously quoted that she will not fight Justino since according to her, Cyborg has been injecting herself for so long that she is no longer a woman. Cris thinks that it is a ruse or an aberration of Rousey and is just short of saying that the latter is scared of her.
Then recently, Ronda Rousey’s mother Dr. Ann Maria De Mars, had an interview over at Submission Radio and said that her daughter is willing to fight Cris Cyborg in the catchweight of 135 pounds. Dr. De Mars added that should Justino agrees, she would definitely have her arm broken during the match.
Justino did not take the bashing lightly calling Ronda Rousey as Honda Housey and alluding to her as if she was Kim Kardashian by having her mother doing the talking on her behalf. Cyborg said that she does not want Rousey’s belt, she actually wants her soul.
She added that Rousey is scared of her because she knows she will have her nose broken and that is a big no-no to her budding Hollywood career. But Cyborg really wants to have the fight happen because it would be champion versus champion in addition to the fact that everybody in the MMA wants to see it too.
