‘Criminal Minds’ Season 12 Episode 2 Becomes the Swan Song for Thomas Gibson’s Hotch

JJ details how frustratingly slowly that the case comes together, as they attempt to figure out what makes the freak of the week flambe sets of children. Her heart especially goes out to the mother of the kidnapped girl Francesca.

After a series of deductive leaps, the squad figures out that the unsub is a younger brother with an older sister, who works in a fire-related business. I believe the technical term was ‘sadistic pyromaniac.’

They throw a few criteria at Garcia, and she narrows the candidate pool down to one likely looking suspect. And the hunt is on.

Somehow only JJ and Luke reach the burning warehouse in time. Viewers would think they would have lined up more rental cars. In any event, JJ sends Luke after the psycho, and she, especially with a burned hand, is unable to rescue all three abductees from the fire. And, for some reason, she blames herself, not the nutjob who set the fire, for it.

It’s also reassuring for viewers to see one currently functional relationship in the BAU. The scoreboard for the rest: divorced, widowed, or single.

It is clear from the second episode that the case is not always the front and center of the TV series because sometimes, the featured characters outstrip the action.

  1. We’ve all got anger issues to different degrees. If TG had wanted to assault that wimpy writer, he would have beaten the crap out of him, not kicked him in the shin. CBS, you SCREWED UP!. I’ll never watch again as much as I love Matthew and Joe. The women, meh!
