The second episode of Season 12 of the American police procedural drama TV series “Criminal Minds” on CBS shown on October 5 became the swan song for Thomas Gibson and his BAU Supervisory Special Agent Aaron ‘Hotch’ Hotchner character. The actor has already been fired from the show after an on-set altercation with writer-producer Virgil Williams.
It was obvious that “Criminal Minds” does not want to hype up the exit of Hotch or highlight it so much that the episode focused instead on the criminally neglected Jennifer ‘JJ’ Jareau, played by A.J. Cook, reports the International Business Times of UK.
In fact, in his last scene during the second episode of Season 12 of “Criminal Minds,” Hotch had a little chat with an emotional JJ and asked her to take a break from work.
Hotch was quoted as saying that he wants her to take some time off, at least a week. He also said that it is not a request before walking away. Accordingly, that would be the last to be heard or seen from Hotch because he would be detailed by the FBI to some post or assignment.
It has been previously reported that the show will have a creative way for the exit of Thomas Gibson’s character but it seems that did not happen, at least as far as the second episode is concerned. It could be that the whole deal or drama would be talked about or discussed in detail in the upcoming episode 3 to be aired on October 12.
Opening up about his firing
A few weeks ago, actor Thomas Gibson has opened up about his firing from the long-running CBS crime drama.
In an interview, he said that they were shooting a scene late one night when he went to Virgil and told him that there was a line that he thought contradicted an earlier line. But Virgil told him that it is necessary that Hotch has to absolutely say it.
He said that Virgil came into the room and started coming towards him. As the writer-producer brushed past him, he said that his foot came up and tapped him on the leg.
He explained that if he had not moved, Virgil would have run into him. Subsequently, they had some choice words for which he apologized the next day.
Gibson said that it was over after that. They shot the scene and went home after. But he never got to return again. It was a quiet firing alright and it came from a quiet writer-producer no less.
The return of Emily Prentiss
It seems clear at this point already that Hotch would no longer be at the BAU to welcome the return of Emily Prentiss, played by Paget Brewster, as the team is called upon to investigate the disappearance of three women in the upcoming episode 3 of “Criminal Minds” Season 12 to air on October 12.
With Hotch already gone, speculations have been swirling wildly on who is going to be the new boss at BAU, a plot which would be one of the more interesting to watch out for in the next episodes of “Criminal Minds.”
Meanwhile, many fans of the TV series were happy that JJ was the focal point of episode 2 of “Criminal Minds” Season 12.
It has shown how the cruelty of the BAU cases has affected JJ, who happens to be the parent of two young boys.
JJ is perhaps the character that has evolved the most on Criminal Minds. She has gone from being essentially a callow spokesmodel in the early days to the parental figure for the entire BAU, notes TV Fanatic.
However, the most recent case, involving child abductions in Los Angeles, has hit JJ especially hard. That’s even apparent to newbie Luke.

We’ve all got anger issues to different degrees. If TG had wanted to assault that wimpy writer, he would have beaten the crap out of him, not kicked him in the shin. CBS, you SCREWED UP!. I’ll never watch again as much as I love Matthew and Joe. The women, meh!
