Bethesda have yet to say anything official about “Fallout 4” other than deny various rumors about it, and yet it seems that new information about the game is making its way to the headlines nearly every week. It’s one of the most anticipated video game releases of all time, and the huge hype makes perfect sense – but it can be extremely difficult at times to figure out which of the rumors are plausible and which ones should be ignored.
Reports indicate that Bethesda have recently filed for a new trademark – they apparently want to protect the “Pip Boy” name now. Knowing the strong involvement of the fictional brand in the Fallout universe, this has raised a lot of questions about a potential upcoming announcement of “Fallout 4”.
It should be noted that Bethesda has been suffering from some false alarms of a similar kind recently. A while back, someone registered a domain for “Survivor 2299”, dropping various hints at a potential new “Fallout” game around the website. Fans were quick to pick up on the hype, and soon this became a sensation on the Internet – meanwhile, Bethesda kept quiet on the issue. A few days later, when the situation started going out of control, the company came forward and admitted they had nothing to do with the website, and it was a hoax.
Since then, they have been criticized for letting the hype grow too large before putting a stop to it, though according to some, the company did this on purpose as it was basically free marketing for them.
Now, they have immediately confirmed that the recent trademark filing was made by none other than them, although according to the announcement, this wasn’t directly related to “Fallout 4”. It was apparently an attempt by Bethesda to protect their assets against some recent incidents related to copyright infringement.
It sounds like a likely story, but then again, if the company really is gearing up to announce Fallout 4 and this is part of their preparations, they would likely say something along those lines anyway. People have been noticeably excited regardless, and the discussions about “Fallout 4” are back in full force. Among the main questions on the table right now, people have been most excited about the location of the new game, as well as the time period it will take place in. According to rumors, it’s possible that the new “Fallout” will be set in Boston, and will move the story a long time into the future, after nature has started to reclaim the desolated cities that now resemble jungles more than anything else. However, according to some, this theme is out of the question at this point, as it would be too similar to “Wasteland 2”, a game spiritually related to the “Fallout” series that was recently released.
