One of the most commonly brought up rumors whenever a new iPhone is headed to the market tends to be about the presence of wireless charging capabilities in the device. So far though, Apple are yet to release an iPhone that supports this, despite many of their users constantly requesting it and the huge market for products that enable the feature on regular iPhones.
According to recent rumors, that may be about to change with the release of the upcoming iPhone 8. There are claims that Apple are not only going to finally bring wireless charging to the table and allow their users to benefit from it, but they may even be developing their own custom technology that will blow the competition out of the water.
While the rumors are hard to verify – and iPhone fans should probably take everything with a grain of salt anyway – it does make some sense for Apple to do that, all things considered. The company is known for their perfectionist approach to their products, and if they decide that the currently available wireless charging technology is not good enough for their needs, we can definitely see them developing their own solution.
What could Apple actually change to make the situation better though? Charging rates are one of the most commonly speculated features, and it makes sense to look in that direction too. If Apple have found a reason to work on a brand new custom wireless charging solution, it could be because they’ve found a way to make it work faster, and therefore a more attractive solution to their customers.
There are some even crazier claims going around right now – for example, that Apple may actually completely skip the regular charging capabilities of the next iPhone, and go with a wireless charger exclusively. With that, they would be able to get rid of the connection port of the device entirely, resulting in an almost perfectly sealed design.
This was actually rumored for the previous iPhone, as some users probably remember, so we wouldn’t put too much weight to those claims right now. However, we would definitely keep an eye on the rumor mill and what people are saying about the iPhone 8, as it does look like Apple are preparing something quite special for the next major release.
Indeed, some of the rumors also bring up the waterproofing aspect of the next iPhone as something that will likely be improved, and that could lend some credibility to the rumors about the wireless charger. It’s also worth pointing out that if Apple are indeed working on something like this, they likely wouldn’t be able to keep it under wraps for too long, as they will most probably have to work with external contractors for at least some parts of the project.
And while Apple are known for their secrecy and their great ability to keep their projects under wraps until they decide to make them public, it’s a different story when they have to bring external people on those projects.
