Fans of “Continuum” have been happily discussing the recent confirmation of the show’s fourth season – and while some have been slightly disappointed that the show has only been signed on four six new episodes, there’s a universal agreement that it’s better than nothing, and with a show that has been as successful as “Continuum” throughout its run so far, even six episodes can potentially do a lot to improve the story and take it even further before everything ends.
In the end, it’s worth noting that many people didn’t even expect to see a fourth season at all, and many were prepared to consider the show done for good after the third season concluded. The announcement came as a surprise to many, but it was definitely a very well-received one, and a surprise that brought the show into the headlines for a good while after the announcement was made.
It’s not yet known when the new season will be released – while it’s scheduled for some time in 2015, the producers haven’t given an exact date yet. It’s probably safe to assume that the season will come out sometime around the summer or after that, as any earlier release would mean that marketing for the new season should have already started.
For many fans, the fact that the show is coming to an end is quite the sad one, as there is a strong sentiment across its fanbase and critics alike that it’s a show with a lot of potential, not all of which was fully realized through its run. Still, that leaves open the possibility for additional episodes to be released in the future, or perhaps even a completely new show as a spin-off from “Continuum” itself.
According to most, the only problem the show had was with its marketing, in the sense that it wasn’t advertised strongly enough. It was a show that could offer a lot to its viewers, and those who did hear about it were almost universally drawn in from the very first episode, so hopefully if the producers decide to continue their great work on another similar show, they would pay more attention to making sure that word gets out about it.
Producers of the show seem to be very positive about the future of their work in any case, as it was revealed that work on the fourth season of “Continuum” had actually started before the show was officially renewed for more episodes. This speaks of a lot of confidence from the producers, so it looks like they know what they’re doing, and they’re prepared to deliver even more great work in the future if they’re given the opportunity.
I really liked this show because they are exploring difficult issues like when are corporations evil and when are they good and what controls do they need? Or when is it better to kill the terrorist who might live to kill thousands and not wonder whether a monster was just created by trying to prevent one? (Ends justify the means). I really loved the speech Kiera gave to her grandmother who was thinking about having an abortion. Of course Kiera has a vested interest but since she knew what could happen she could tell her grandmother that if she has a baby the home will be filled with love and everything would work out. That’s great TV.
But I think back to the future plots can get convoluted and messy and ridiculous so I hope they can wrap things up in six episodes.
The latest season wasn’t good content in any sense, and it did end at not quite a cliffhanger so much as a bad ending (apart from the Halo soldiers – which definitely looked interesting). There was a “forced / non-organic” feel to most of it.
Still, it’ll be interesting to see the ending the creators had planned for… many seasons in the future, pulled together in six episodes.
(I hope they don’t try to force the ending too much though. A cool impactful ending is good, but only if it makes sense – they might want to rethink stuff some, rather than commit to the original ending they had planned)
