“Constantine” was quite successful among some of its viewers, and the show managed to establish a small but active following. Many were convinced that they would see a second season after the first one was over, as it definitely seemed like the story had a lot of potential for being expanded in all directions. However, that’s not the case after all, and as it turns out, season 1 is going to be the last one.
Even though Daniel Cerone tried quite hard to preserve the show on the air and he went to various networks to discuss reviving it for a second season, nobody was apparently interested in taking on “Constantine” and all networks refused him. In the end, he decided to let it go and focus on something else, even though some fans are still hopeful that he’ll find a way out of the mess.
It seems like he’s still planning to put some effort into reviving the production and getting it back on the screen, but at this point, changes are getting slimmer and slimmer now that the major networks have refused to carry it. While we can understand the disappointment of the fans, we also get the stance of the networks that don’t want to risk taking on a show which didn’t manage to impress with its ratings all too much.
Still, there might be some consolation for those who were interested in the production, as their character will at least possibly get a cameo appearance in another show. Reports claim that “Arrow” in particular will feature Constantine for one episode, and the episode in question will revolve around similar issues like the original show was dealing with, namely the occult and mysterious.
This is apparently something that’s been discussed between producers of both shows for some time now, and Wendy Mercle reportedly confirmed the cameo appearance, but couldn’t give any specific details about it.
Previously, there were growing reports that the show was actually renewed and that its revival was about to be announced soon, but fans soon learned that this was very far from the truth. On a few occasions, we even saw alleged leaks of the plot for the second season, but members of the show’s community were quick to point out that those were likely fake.
After all, it wouldn’t make too much sense for the second season to have its storyline written and prepared in advance before the show has been officially continued, as that would have been a lot of wasted effort. Sure, the writers might have prepared a few episodes so they would have something to pitch to the various networks that the directors were trying out, but in the end, the majority of the episodes would have been written after a deal was finalized with some network.
Now, there are also rumors that Constantine might make his way to other shows as well, again as a cameo appearance, although we have no idea what those could be other than “Arrow”. There are actually various productions on TV right now where a detective dealing with the occult could fit in, and we wouldn’t be surprised if we saw him in certain shows indeed. On the other hand, it might become a bit too clichéd to start including Constantine in too many shows if the producers push hard for such cameo appearances, and even though it would be entertaining for the fans, they should be careful about it.
