Hopes for the revival of Season 2 of the American supernatural drama TV series “Constantine” based on DC Comics started hitting the roof when CW Seed, the web channel of The CW network, has announced last month that it will air the first season of the show.
Many fans and critics of the show were in unison in speculating that The CW might pick up the second season of “Constantine” to complete its roster of TV series based on DC Comics.
If ever, “Constantine” shall be joining other shows based on DC Comics on the network including “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Supergirl.”
It is easy to understand the assumption of fans and critics because Season 1 of “Constantine” ended in a cliffhanger and NBC decided to cancel it anyway for its Season 2.
So airing the TV series on CW Seed, without a resolution in sight to the cliffhanger left in Season 1, does not make sense at all as it shall only agitate the viewers of the web channel. They will be shortchanged the way the viewers of “Constantine” felt when NBC canceled the show for Season 2 early last year.
No connection at all
However, former “Constantine” showrunner Daniel Cerone, recently posted on Twitter to indirectly say that fans of the TV series should not get their hopes all too high.
He said in his tweet that CW Seed and The CW are not directly connected to each other, alluding that there are still no plans in the works to revive the series, notes the Christian Times.
Without saying it, Cerone is actually one with the fans in keeping their fingers crossed that “Constantine” will eventually get revived soon if not sooner.
It can be recalled that Cerone is one of the staunch lobbyists of “Constantine” immediately after NBC canceled it last year. He liaised with various networks and streaming services to rescue the show from cancellation and even discussed with NBC to reconsider its decision on “Constantine.” All his efforts went for naught as there were no takers to his offer to rescue the TV series.
The hopes of fans to see “Constantine” on TV again were stoked further when Matt Ryan, who plays the demon hunter John Constantine in the show, guested on episode 5 of Season 4 of “Arrow” late last year which generated the biggest ratings for the TV show during its first half, notes Game & Guide.
But subsequently, “Arrow” showrunner Marc Guggenheim disclosed that the appearance of John Constantine on the TV show was a one and off deal which was agreed upon long before “Constantine” was canceled by NBC.
Resurrection rumors on the loose
Since last month, the rumors about the resurrection of Season 2 of “Constantine” has started to become a possibility on The CW after the network decided to include the first season of the TV series for a rerun on its CW Seed.
CW Seed is a website that offers a variety of original ongoing shows as well as entire series of concluded shows.
The fact that CW Seed added the rerun of the 13 episodes of Season 1 of “Constantine” hints of a great possibility that its parent network will decide on reviving the show for Season 2.
The logic behind the possibility is simple. Season 1 of “Constantine” ended in a major cliffhanger so if CW Seed would run it, its viewers would just be turned off if the cliffhanger would not be eventually answered.
Therefore, a Season 2 is likely in the works and that it is possible that it would already be airing on The CW, which would make five the total of shows based on DC Comics on the network starting next year perhaps.
It is almost sure that the prospect of a revival of “Constantine” for Season 2 on The CW is exciting most of its fans and viewers.
