It has been 13 months since the American supernatural drama TV series “Constantine” was canceled by NBC for its second season just weeks after its Season 1 finale.
One of the show’s executive producers Daniel Cerone strongly lobbied with the network to reconsider its decision but NBC seemed firm with its move back then to unload the TV series based on comic books. That’s in addition to the fact that the show was not enjoying very good ratings the way it was hyped to be before its Season 1 was officially aired on the small screen.
Cerone then decided to offer “Constantine” Season 2 to be rescued from cancellation with other networks and also streaming services. Unfortunately, there were no takers to his offer. In fact, he even threw in veteran actor William Shatner of the original “Star Trek” franchise to be included in the second season of “Constantine” just to sweeten the deal.
But the networks and the streaming services do not want to have anything to do with the offer from the executive producer and the TV series per se.
However, there are now online rumors swirling wildly that since DC Comics has decided to go full blast with its DC Extended Universe both in the movies and the TV following the success of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” it is possible that “Constantine” might get revived in the process.
“Constantine” is actually a TV series based on DC Comics and it joins the roster of similar shows including “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Gotham,” and “Supergirl,” details Yibada.
Revival from Season 2 cancellation
In fact, there are now unconfirmed reports saying that with the success of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” when it was shown late in March this year on worldwide theaters, DC Comic has decided to intensify its investments in the small screen including the possible revival of “Constantine” from cancellation.
According to rumors, officials at DC Comics and Warner Bros Television were fascinated by the idea of expanding its presence both on the big screen and the small screen.
Since Matt Ryan appeared in one episode of “Arrow” Season 4 late last year and it brought in high viewership, the producers are now seriously contemplating of bringing the TV series back to life but already in DC Comics-friendly networks including The CW, Fox, and CBS, notes Breathe Cast.
There are also some reports saying that “Constantine” may get revived not as a TV series but possibly as a series regular role for actor Matt Ryan as John Constantine for “Legends of Tomorrow” over at The CW.
While this development would be very interesting for fans of John Constantine, everything remains as speculation at this time and only an official statement from DC Comics, Warner Bros Television, or cast members shall attest to its veracity.
The battle of the comic books
With the successful release of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” on global theaters in the last week of March, it signaled the start of the expansion of the DC Comics universe on films.
Its competitor, Marvel Comics, calls its movie and TV universe as Marvel Cinematic Universe but DC Comics calls theirs as DC Extended Universe.
The DC Extended Universe may be a late bloomer on the big screen but it is certainly ahead of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on the small screen.
In fact, there are now five TV series based on DC Comics characters as opposed to two based on Marvel Comics. DC would have six if not for NBC canceling the second season of “Constantine” following its Season 1 in May last year.
The five TV series based on DC Comics were previously mentioned but the two TV series based on Marvel Comics are “Agent Carter” and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” both on Fox.
Rumors have it that “Constantine” might get a new lease on life and a Season 2 revival if DC continues to develop its Extended Universe not only on the big screen but also on the small screen.

Just to point some things out, Marvel do have Netflix series including Dardevil and Jessica Jones which were aired and both have high ratings. Just saying. Maybe compare Marvel to DC fairly? While Marvel is superior in its movies, the TV shows are still debatable. Cheers! :)
