‘Constantine’ Season 2 Revival Momentarily Got a Boost when John Constantine’s Cameo Appearance on ‘Arrow’ Season 4 Got High TV Ratings!

Season 2 of the American supernatural drama TV series “Constantine” was cancelled by NBC some weeks after its Season 1 finale last year.

Although it is a show with a huge fanbase considering that it is based on DC Comics, the network simply believes that “Constantine” was not good enough for its own preference for a TV series.

Many view the move of NBC as counter-productive as the trend these days is to jump on the superhero genre based on comic books because those are guaranteed to bring in the numbers and the money.

In fact, The CW already has three TV series based in DC Comics including “Arrow,” “The Flash,” and “Legends of Tomorrow.” CBS has one in “Supergirl” which only premiered last year.

Fox also has a TV series based on DC Comics “Gotham,” and that one has already moved to its second season beginning last year. So it is rather odd for NBC to just let go of a DC Comics franchise just like that when others would like to take in as much.

It is expected that the stock of DC Comics characters will get a strong boost this year beginning with the showing to worldwide theaters of “Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice” on March 25. There is also the upcoming “Suicide Squad” due to hit cinemas in August, the plotline of which has already been established by “Arrow” and “The Flash” in its previous episodes.

Thus, it is possible that if there would be an attempt to revive or rescue Season 2 of “Constantine” from cancellation this year, the most likely to do it are the networks that are home to TV series based on DC Comics including The CW, CBS, and Fox.

A positive chance for revival

If there’s a positive chance for the revival of “Constantine,” the network would most likely take pride in the fact that when John Constantine, played by Matt Ryan, made a cameo appearance on episode 5 of the current Season 4 of “Arrow” that aired on The CW on November 4 last year, the episode turned out to be the highest rated for the popular TV series since its season premiere.

It certainly renewed interest on John Constantine and also on Matt Ryan.

As a matter of fact, immediately after the guesting stint of Matt Ryan on “Arrow” as John Constantine, “Constantine” executive producer Daniel Cerone relayed that a second petition on Change.org seeking the revival of Season 2 of “Constantine” has already garnered 20,000 signatures.

Cerone helped organize the fans when the show began to struggle but he also had to keep a pretty realistic world view about the whole thing, details Den of Geek.

The first petition was started last year a few weeks after NBC announced the cancellation of Season 2 of the TV series, which actually generated a lot of support from fans. But apparently, it fell on NBC’s deaf ears.

A show with a great promise

“Constantine” actually showed a great promise in its first season and it was difficult to imagine a perfect John Constantine than Welsh actor Matt Ryan.

Incidentally, in order to give fans a closure of “Constantine” on NBC after its Season 1 finale episode left a huge cliffhanger, Cerone released the original script of episode 14 of the TV show on his Twitter account late last year, notes TV Series Finale.

Cerone’s script came out about a week before John Constantine made his guest appearance on episode 5 of Season 4 “Arrow” that aired on The CW on November 4.

The executive producer actually urged fans of “Constantine” to watch the “Arrow” episode in hopes that the TV show could continue on another network in the not-too-distant future.

constantine

Many DC fans really felt disappointed with the decision of NBC not to renew the show for its second season because “Constantine” is contextually rich in content. Because it is based on DC Comics, it has plenty of stories to tell, and most of them are really original.

Unfortunately, the TV series was aired on NBC instead of The CW which is now home to three TV series based on DC Comics.

At the time when “Constantine” started airing on NBC, the first TV series on The CW based on DC Comics, “Arrow,” has already bred a spinoff TV series which is “The Flash.”
