Although there is still no official word yet on the possible revival of the American supernatural drama TV series “Constantine” for its second season by any network thus far, it seems that it would just be a matter of time now.
This became evident with Matt Ryan’s John Constantine, or more like his likeness and that of his voice too, has officially joined the DC Animated Universe through Warner Brothers Animation’s direct-to-video film series entitled “Justice League Dark.”
The film focuses on heroes like Zatanna, Swamp Thing, The Demon Entrigan, Batman, and John Constantine facing against the forces of darkness, reports Science Fiction.
During the New York ComicCon 2016 held last month, Matt Ryan said that it feels good to return as John Constantine even though it is just his voice which is doing all the work for now.
He said he missed playing John Constantine because he is such an amazing character and he loves playing him so much. Ryan said that he already loved playing John Constantine before in a live-action TV series and to get to do him again in an animated film series is really wonderful for him.
Walking him through the character
Matt Ryan also detailed that he had to really do his research for the John Constantine character prior to his stint in “Constantine” on NBC. With the help of a friend who is a fan of the ‘Hellblazer’ comics, the actor learned the intricacies of the character.
He is also very elated that even though the TV series has already been canceled by NBC last year, he still feels blessed for being identified with the DC Comics character.
Ryan said that since he shot his single episode guesting in “Arrow” Season 4 late last year, he has been lucky enough to be working constantly as John Constantine.
He also disclosed that he does not have any idea at the moment whether there are plans or not to bring John Constantine in on any other DC TV shows or anything like that, but it is something that he would love to experience.
As far as the difference of the character in “Constantine” the TV series to the upcoming film series “Justice League Dark,” Ryan said that John Constantine is seen interacting with other characters that were not there in the show so it was quite awesome.
He said that what he did was just to bring the John Constantine he knows from his TV series and the rest of the characters and the producers really wanted it that way so they just adapt it to the script and context of “Justice League Dark.”
Still up in the air
While the CW Seed, the sister web channel of The CW network, recently picked up Season 1 of “Constantine,” there were still no assurance that the CW Seed or The CW will revive the show from cancellation and start airing its second season.
There were even reports saying that “Constantine” Season 2 would take over the time slot of “The Vampire Diaries” after its series finale in March, notes the Christian Times.
But it seems very remote already since after “The Vampire Diaries,” its spin-off series, “The Originals” will take over its timeslot to air its fourth season on the network.
Over the past couple of months, there have been rumors saying that “Constantine” will be revived for Season 2 on The CW network.
The first main reason was because of the fact that the network’s sister company, CW Seed, started airing the first season of “Constantine” that was first aired on NBC last year.
Those who are familiar with “Constantine” know that towards the end of the Season 1 finale, there was a major cliffhanger involving the apparent betrayal of John Constantine by the angel named Manny.
