Constantine Season 2 May Have Been Cancelled But Show Will Live in the Hearts of its Fans Forever

Matt Ryan, the actor who played hellblazer John Constantine in the American supernatural action-thriller TV series “Constantine,” feels sorry that the show was no longer renewed by NBC for Season 2, nor was it rescued by any other network from cancellation. But he is positive that the show and the lead character of the series will live in the hearts of its fans forever.

In his tweet early last month, after show creator Daniel Cerone officially said that the show is over, Ryan appreciated the fans of the series because of their support, citing them as truly the best there is.

He also took the opportunity to express his gratitude for everyone involved in the production of the show and believes that working with them are truly great memories worth keeping forever. He likewise lauded them for never giving up on the show despite the odds, details Crossmap.

The actor said that he was very disappointed, just like showrunner Daniel Cerone was, that he can no longer pursue the journey of John Constantine. He added that he will surely miss playing the role.

Extremely disappointed

If there is one other person who really feels heartbroken that “Constantine” was not renewed for Season 2, it is definitely no other than show creator Daniel Cerone.

Despite his subsequent attempts to liaise and negotiate with other networks to rescue the show from cancellation after NBC decided in dropping it after just one season, Cerone was not able to convince anybody of the potentials of the show as a network money-maker.

His last negotiation was with The CW network and to even sweeten the deal, Cerone even promised to bring in veteran actor William Shatner to “Constantine,” but his efforts eventually proved futile.

After NBC officially cancelled Season 2 of “Constantine” in April, Cerone has given himself until the first two weeks of June to rescue the show from cancellation as the contracts of the stars are only good until that period.

However, with no clear future for the show in sight, the series has officially released the cast from their contracts before mid-June and Cerone put the nail in the coffin by posting in social media that the show is over.

Even when NBC decided to cancel the show in April, Cerone still haggled with the network for a couple of weeks. When he got a negative answer from the NBC network bosses, he decided to pitch the saving of “Constantine” to sister networks SyFy and The CW.

SyFy denied ever dealing or expressing interest on the show so Cerone was left with a last ditch effort to save “Constantine” with The CW.

Futile efforts

In his tweet early last month, Cerone posted a mouthful in delivering the bad news to anxiously waiting show fans. He confirmed that the cast and the writers of “Constantine” are being released from their contracts as the efforts of the studio to find a new home for the show proved futile, details the Den of Geek.

Cerone also acknowledged the writers and staff that breathed life into the characters in “Constantine,” citing also how the writers were the true people behind any TV series.

constantine

He also said that he is just happy that the writers of “Constantine” are leaving the dream behind through the show’s passionate fans who believe in what they tried to do. Although he expressed sadness for leaving the dedicated and active fan base on the table, he said that the good news is that “Constantine” will live on for years in many forms.

  3. the writer has is a movie for in between with the cliff hanger end of season 1, the plot is a big evil force so spin season 2 script into a movie have keynono reeves return as a return as johns relatives to strenthin the team then after the movie pitch to syfi Chanel or Netflix

    1. How can Keanu Reeves ‘return as John’s relative’?? Keanu WAS John Constantine in the 2005 movie. As much as I love this series, Constantine the movie was a lot better.

  4. For ***** sake why everything I like gets canceled so quickly. First Firefly now Constantine. I’m going to seriously hurt NBC for this.

  5. why does everything dat portrays dat Satan is a liar nd a pathetic monster get canceled nd the ones dats supposed to be canceled won’t like dominion….. dominion is supposed to be destroyed nd burnt

  6. Hi to all producers out there, please do invest in shows like Constantine. It is such an amazing show. Even ppl in asian countries love em. I dont understand why is there a need to cancel this show.

  7. That is so so disheartening. I was looking online tonight to see when the next season started. I don’t often watch tv but loved this show. They are ridiculous not to renew it as it had a strong main character and would build to have a following.

  8. N.B.C. are u f £€king nuts that show kicked ASS !!!!!!!! You people put good shows on then cancel to put csi I THINK EVERY MAJOR NETWORK NEEDS TO GET THERE HEADS OUT OF EACH OTHERS ASS STOP WITH CSI AND GOOD SHOWS ON.

  9. Shame that the series was not allowed to develop as it surely would have in Season 2.

The hard gritty performance by the main character and his assistant along with exploring the darkness of humanity and realities connected to it was refreshing compared to smoothed and polished programmes which strip these aspects out.

Another example of a good piece of entertainment dropped while cheap “common denominator” TV is kept on.

  10. This show is bloody brilliant. I watched it in 3 days and couldn’t stop watching it. It’s a damn shame that you won’t make another series!

  11. I absolutely love Constantine I would work around my schedule to watch this show , if no other network picks this show up it’s their loss. I can’t believe nbc dropped it.

  12. I want a new season of Constantine. The show is fantastic!! And Matt Ryan helped me with my English . I love his accent.
    Please come back Constantine.

  13. Constantine made a guest appearance on arrow in the last episode. which prompted me to watch the series. I am truly saddened that nobody picked up the show. I do understand Mr. Cerone for not holding his people back from their careers.. So kudos to him. But stupid shows like mothers being drug dealers go on for seasons…something wrong here. Just saying. maybe Somebody will pick it up.

    1. I don’t really get this choice either. Why do the ‘duh’ type shows stay on for umpteen seasons and the good shows that have a good story, that have so much to offer, they get canned.

It’s almost like they don’t want people to think, just shows with really low key, no brain required crap are kept. We need to have engaging series that offer more than Simpson humor and Reality show fake b.s. (even when it’s a bit real, they stage stuff to happen. That’s manipulating, it makes the shows fake. It’s fraud, cause it’s called reality and they’re f-ing with people’s heads.)

We have some great DC stories going on, Grimm and some others are trying to offer something that gets people talking. Geeks are enjoying these shows, yet they still take good shows that could evolve into great shows away. Pretender, John Doe, Believe, Agent Carter (which was supposed to have a new season, but haven’t seen it yet.) and Unnatural History (the family oriented one, with Henry Griffin (Kevin G. Schmidt) ).

Everyone of those was a great show, yet there was no faith from the syndicate to support them. Why? Why do we keep letting these channels dictate what we can and cannot watch?

Maybe there should be an online channel – one that can offer the series that the viewers want, without having the “board” to answer to. Let the people decide what’s good, what stays. It’s hard to understand, with a viewer rating in the millions, let alone 3+million, Constantine was still canceled.

It would be nice if we’d have the ability to get to see the unfinished shows that would have been made. Here’s hoping that the current shows stick around for a long time.

  14. NBC are fu**ing pathetic a**holes that don’t know a great story from their asshole!!! I loved that show. My family would make family time and look forward to this and watch out together. Thanks for taking that aware fu**ers!! Oh week, on to the other better channels. Choose this sure ain’t one of them. No consideration for what the viewers want.

  15. I normally don’t like scary/horror series or movies, but this one I absolutely love.
They just can’t cancel it. They are not in there right minds.

  16. I normally don’t like scary/horror series or movies, but this one I absolutely love. The can’t cancel it, no way.

  17. Why? I am so heartbroken right now Constantine must go on it is a very interesting TV show it can’t be cancelled please for the sake of the fans.

  18. I only started to watch this show when I saw Constantine in Arrow. It’s great! I’m not into horror shows but I like this idea of a hero who fights darkness. Why is it being cancelled? Such a shame.
