‘Constantine’ Season 2 Long Gone But Matt Ryan’s Character About to Show Up in Episode 4 of Arrow

Season 2 of the American supernatural drama TV series “Constantine” on NBC has long been gone, but Matt Ryan’s character will cross over and show up on the next episode of the American superhero drama TV series “Arrow” on The CW on November 11.

John Constantine is set to arrive in Star City as a favor to Oliver Queen, played by Stephen Amell, the alter ego of the Green Arrow.

Apparently, Oliver needed help in dealing with Sara Lance, played by Caity Lotz, as she has become a danger to practically everyone after her magical resurrection in the Lazarus Pit turned her wild, unpredictable, and more deadly, details Access Hollywood.

Matt Ryan still managed to squeeze his appearance on “Arrow” and don his usual trench coat, loose tie, slacks, and button down shirt amid working for an upcoming Broadway project with Keira Knightley, Judith Light, and Gabriel Ebert.

Excited to be playing the Hellblazer again

In an interview, Matt Ryan said that his character’s casting on “Arrow” was first announced at the San Diego ComicCon 2015 sometime in July and when his agent called him about it, they both decided to make it happen.

Matt said that he was excited to be the Hellblazer again even if it was not in his own TV series. He adds that John Constantine is such an iconic and amazing character who is so fun to play with. He went on to say that the Hellblazer is dark yet funny but overall, the character is great.

Ryan said that he was a bit disappointed when “Constantine” was not renewed by NBC for its second season. He was also dismayed that no other network or streaming service picked it up because he feels that there was an unfinished business left hanging with the character.

So when he was told that he will be taking on the character again, he found it really a great opportunity.

Another thing that fans should look forward to with John Constantine’s cameo appearance in “Arrow” is the interaction of the two iconic DC characters in one TV show – Oliver Queen and John Constantine.

He also confirmed the earlier pronouncements made by Stephen Amell in another interview that it took him quite some time to find his character back again. Ryan said that it was about two or three takes before the physicality of John Constantine came back to him and it turned out quite great.

Ryan also said that Stephen Amell is such a wonderful actor and a great man that he found it a joy to work with him. He adds that Stephen has been a champion of the show “Constantine” since they started and he just finds it fantastic that the two of them were able to finally work together.

It was actually “Arrow” executive producer Marc Guggenheim who revealed the news at the San Diego ComicCon 2015.

Guggenheim said that when fans and viewers see John Constantine on “Arrow,” most of them will actually think that they are already doing a “Constantine” – “Arrow” crossover which makes it really exciting. He explained that the idea was never felt forced at all but actually felt just right.

He added that he is just glad to give Matt Ryan’s run as John Constantine an extended run into the “Arrow” universe even if it is just for an episode or two. The “Arrow” showrunner said that the on-screen vibe or chemistry between actors Stephen Amell and Matt Ryan is very natural, making people think that the two have been working together for a long time already, which was not the case.

Hardcore fans of “Constantine” may have been holding out hope for a network or streaming service to resurrect the TV series for a second season. The upcoming episode of “Arrow” will at least give fans the opportunity to revel in Ryan’s devil-may-care rendition of the Hellblazer for a little while longer.
