The previous rumors about the alignment of TV series based on DC Comics are now proving to be true after all.
After The CW picked up “Supergirl” from CBS for Season 2, there have been speculations that the network would revive the American supernatural drama TV series “Constantine” which was canceled by NBC after only one season last year.
The idea of having most of the TV series based on DC Comics in one network is to be able to expand well the DC Extended Universe to the small screen following the blockbuster movie “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” shown in March, which started the ball rolling.
As it is, there are now four TV series based on DC Comics on The CW including “Arrow,” “The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” and “Supergirl.”
A fifth TV series “Gotham” is being aired on Fox and it would not be surprising if the TV series also moves to The CW next year or in the future.
After the appearance of Matt Hardy, who plays John Constantine, during the fifth episode of “Arrow” Season 4 in November last year, The CW may have been inspired to consider bringing “Constantine” into their fold since the guesting of Constantine actually pushed the ratings of “Arrow” to record high.
In fact, there were reports back then saying that John Constantine could eventually appear again in future episodes of “Arrow,” to which executive producer Marc Guggenheim said no because it was just a one and done deal.
Revival very likely
It looks like the resurrection of Season 2 of “Constantine” is now becoming a possibility on The CW after the network decided to include the first season of the TV series for a rerun on its CW Seed.
CW Seed is a website that offers a variety of original ongoing shows as well as entire series of concluded shows, details Cinema Blend.
The fact that CW Seed added the rerun of the 13 episodes of Season 1 of “Constantine” hints of a great possibility that its parent network will decide on reviving the show for Season 2.
The logic behind the possibility is simple. Season 1 of “Constantine” ended in a major cliffhanger so if CW Seed would run it, its viewers would just be turned off if the cliffhanger would not be eventually answered too just like what happened in NBC.
Therefore, a Season 2 is likely in the works and that it is possible that it would be airing on The CW in the future, which would total to five the number of shows based on DC Comics on the network starting next year perhaps.
Getting the fans excited
It is almost sure that the prospect of a revival of “Constantine” for Season 2 on The CW is exciting most of its fans and viewers.
This seems imminent in light of reports that Warner Bros has reportedly tried to acquire the rights to the TV series, reports the Hall of Fame Magazine.
Critics really believe that “Constantine” becoming available on CW Seed is a sign that it will have its own connection via a Season 2 on The CW or at the very least, guest appearances on any of the four TV series based on DC Comics airing on the network.
If and when “Constantine” is rescued from cancellation and airs its Season 2, it would still come back with Matt Hardy in the lead role. Ryan is reportedly filming the 1940 series “The Halcyon” in the UK, which is an eight-part drama series.
But he would sure be happy to be given the opportunity to play John Constantine again any day of the week, maybe twice on Sundays.
However, fans of “Constantine” should not just get their hopes up yet until The CW President Mark Pedowitz makes the confirmation sometime in the near future.
Practically all of the TV series based on DC Comics are doing well in the ratings so it was rather surprising that it was not the same for “Constantine” when its first season aired on NBC.
