The American supernatural drama TV series “Constantine” may have only been good for one season on NBC when the network decided not to renew the show for a second season after its Season 1 finale earlier this year.
But since the character and the TV series is based on DC Comics, fans really expected that they have not seen the last of John Constantine, played in the small screen by Welsh actor Matt Ryan complete with his thick English accent.
It could be recalled that before Matt Ryan’s take on John Constantine, also known in DC Comics as the Hellblazer, the role was taken to the big screen by Keanu Reeves in the self-titled movie that was shown in 2005.
Reliving Constantine again
So when Matt Ryan, relieved his role on episode 5 of the current fourth season of the American superhero drama TV series “Arrow” on The CW, most DC fans were no longer surprised.
John Constantine appeared on the episode of “Arrow” titled “Haunted” as he was sought out by Oliver Queen a.k.a. the Green Arrow, played by Stephen Amell, to help in dealing with Sara Lance, played by Caity Lotz, as she has become a danger to practically everyone after her magical resurrection in the Lazarus Pit turned her wild, unpredictable, and more deadly.
Immediately after Matt Ryan’s cameo appearance on “Arrow,” rumors started swirling that the executive producers of the upcoming American superhero drama TV series “Legends of Tomorrow” also on The CW, are now considering to include John Constantine in Season 2 of the show sometime in 2017, notes the Vine Report.
But since Season 1 of “Legends of Tomorrow” has yet to premiere, it is really too premature to even think about its Season 2 or the possible guesting or inclusion of John Constantine on the roster of cast members.
In addition, Season 2 of “Legends of Tomorrow” is still hypothetical at this time given the reports that the show is very expensive to produce. There are even reports that the show might be replaced by a totally different show.
Returning to the big screen?
More than the prospect of John Constantine joining the cast of “Legends of Tomorrow” for its still hypothetical Season 2 in 2017, there are now reports going around that Matt Ryan is also being eyed to reprise the role not on another TV series but on the big screen.
Accordingly, critically-acclaimed screenwriter, director and producer Guillermo del Toro is now working on the script of a movie also based on DC Comics tentatively titled “Justice League Dark.”
Interestingly, Constantine’s character has been a prominent fixture in the reported movie script, according to sources.
When told about this exciting prospect, Matt Ryan said that he is a huge fan of Guillermo del Toro because he is such an amazing director and he loves his work.
He also said that the “Justice League Dark” comics are also quite amazing and he would love that his character John Constantine be considered for it. Ryan also said that when actors do a character for TV, they do it for TV. But when they do it for a movie, it’s different, details Comic Book Resources.
He admitted however that though he really believes that John Constantine is quite a wonderful character, he has no idea at this time if the character would be back on the big screen anytime soon or not.
Meanwhile, the reports about John Constantine being part of “Legends of Tomorrow” said that Matt Ryan may be taken in around the second season, especially considering the fact that Season 1 of the TV series is a bit on the star-studded side. And with the special effects needed to make all these superheroes look good in their action scenes, the cost of production is quite huge.

Bring it back such an awesome show
