‘Constantine’ Getting a New Lease on Life on ‘Legends of Tomorrow’ May Not Happen After All!

Late in November, there have been reports that John Constantine, the character played by Matt Ryan in the American supernatural drama TV series “Constantine” will have the chance for another revival on an upcoming TV series on The CW.

Reports have it that the producers of “Legends of Tomorrow” based in DC Comics are considering the possible inclusion of John Constantine as part of the superhero group since his character is also based on DC Comics.

The rumors seem to have built momentum after Matt Ryan made a cameo appearance on episode 5 of the current fourth season of the American superhero drama TV series “Arrow” also on The CW.

John Constantine appeared on the episode titled “Haunted” as he was sought by Oliver Queen a.k.a. the Green Arrow, played by Stephen Amell, to help in dealing with Sara Lance, played by Caity Lotz, as she has become a danger to everyone after her magical resurrection in the Lazarus Pit turned her wild, unpredictable, and more deadly, notes the Ecumenical News.

Not happening

However, the producers of “Legends of Tomorrow” are reportedly having second thoughts about a Season 2 of the upcoming TV series because they expect the show to grow even more expensive.

“Legends of Tomorrow” is set to premiere on The CW on January 21, 2016, but uncharacteristically, the producers are said to be projecting an incredibly expensive production come Season 2.

According to a source, any discussion about who is going to be part or not of Season 2 appears to be a bucket list for the time being, notes Mstarz.

The reports about John Constantine being part of “Legends of Tomorrow” said that Matt Ryan may be taken in around the second season, especially considering the fact that Season 1 of the TV series is a bit on the star-studded side. And with the special effects needed to make all these superheroes look good in their action scenes, the cost of production is quite huge.

“Legends of Tomorrow” stars Brandon Routh, who plays Roy Palmer / The Atom; Caity Lotz, who plays Sara Lance / White Canary; Wentworth Miller, who plays Leonard Snart / Captain Cold; Dominic Purcell, who plays Heat Wave; Victor Garber, who plays Martin Stein / Firestorm; Franz Drameh, who plays Jefferson Jackson / Firestorm; Ciara Renee, who plays Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl; Falk Hentschel, who plays Carter Hall / Hawkman; and Arthur Darvill, who plays Rip Hunter.

Casper Crump will take on the role of the big bad as Vandal Savage. Considering that “Legends of Tomorrow” is a spinoff of “The Flash” and “Arrow,” guest appearances from Stephen Amell, who plays Oliver Queen / Green Arrow, and Grant Gustin, who plays Barry Allen / The Flash, are also expected.

An extended run

In an interview prior to his cameo in Season 4 of “Arrow,” Matt Ryan said that his character’s casting on the TV series was first announced at the San Diego ComicCon 2015 sometime in July and when his agent called him about it, they both decided to make it happen.

It was actually executive producer Marc Guggenheim who revealed the news at the San Diego ComicCon 2015.

constantine

Guggenheim said that when fans and viewers see John Constantine on “Arrow,” most of them will actually think that they are already doing a “Constantine” – “Arrow” crossover which makes it really exciting. He explained that the idea was never felt forced at all but actually felt just right.

He added that he and “Arrow” is just glad to give Matt Ryan’s role as John Constantine an extended run into the “Arrow” universe even if it is just for an hour. The “Arrow” showrunner said that the on-screen chemistry between actor Stephen Amell and Matt Ryan is very natural, making people think that the two have been working for a long time already, which was not the case.
