Following the airing of the series finale of Season 1 of the American supernatural drama TV series “Constantine” in April last year, NBC did not renew the show for its second season.
The most unfortunate thing is that the showrunner and the producers really had no idea that the TV series was going to be cancelled because of its huge cult following and its ratings are not that bad too.
Since they were not aware that “Constantine” will not be renewed for Season 2, show creator Daniel Cerone left a huge cliffhanger during the 13th and final episode of Season 1, thus leaving fans distraught over the cancellation as they have no idea how the story will wrap up.
If there is one person who really feels heartbroken that “Constantine” was not renewed for Season 2, it is definitely Daniel Cerone.
Attempt to rescue the show from cancellation
Despite his subsequent attempts to liaise and negotiate with other networks to rescue the show from cancellation after NBC decided on dropping it after just one season, Cerone was not able to convince anybody of the potentials of the show as a network money-maker.
His last negotiation was with The CW network and to even sweeten the deal, Cerone even promised to bring in veteran actor William Shatner to “Constantine,” but his efforts eventually proved futile.
After NBC officially cancelled Season 2 of “Constantine” in April, Cerone has given himself until the first two weeks of June to rescue the show from cancellation as the contracts of the stars are only good until that period.
However, with no clear future for the show in sight, the series has officially released the cast from their contracts before mid-June and Cerone put the nail in the coffin by posting in social media that the show is over.
Even when NBC decided to cancel the show in April, Cerone still haggled with the network for a couple of weeks. When he got a negative answer from the NBC network bosses, he decided to pitch the saving of “Constantine” to sister networks SyFy and The CW.
SyFy denied ever dealing or expressing interest on the show while The CW rejected the offer, officially putting an end to the show.
A closure
Since he can no longer air one more episode of “Constantine” that shall put everything to a wrap, Daniel Cerone released in October an original script for episode 14 of the defunct TV series and posted it on his Twitter account.
Cerone’s script was posted on Twitter one week before John Constantine made his guest appearance on episode 5 of the American superhero drama TV series “Arrow” on The CW.
The showrunner also urged fans of “Constantine” to watch the “Arrow” episode in hopes that the character could be continued on another network in the future, cites TV Series Finale.
So when Matt Ryan, relieved his role on episode 5 of “Arrow” on The CW, most of DC fans were no longer surprised.
John Constantine appeared on the episode of “Arrow” titled “Haunted” as he was sought by Oliver Queen a.k.a. the Green Arrow, played by Stephen Amell, to help in dealing with Sara Lance, played by Caity Lotz, as she has become a danger to practically everyone after her magical resurrection in the Lazarus Pit turned her wild, unpredictable, and more deadly.
Immediately after Matt Ryan’s cameo appearance on “Arrow,” rumors started swirling that the executive producers of the upcoming American superhero drama TV series “Legends of Tomorrow” also on The CW, are now considering to include John Constantine in Season 2 of the show sometime in 2017, notes Screen Rant.
But since Season 1 of “Legends of Tomorrow” has yet to premiere, it is really too premature to even think about its Season 2 or the possible guesting or inclusion of John Constantine on the roster of cast members.
