Rumors about “GTA 6” have been quite active lately, even though Rockstar continue to be quiet about the game, and are focusing on developing the current “GTA 5” to its full potential. And it’s true that the current installment of the series definitely needs some extra polish to bring it up to the state gamers were expecting initially, but this certainly doesn’t stop some from discussing the possibilities for the next game. And recently, rumors started spreading that Rockstar have finally broken their silence, and have made an announcement about the next game, revealing its location to be in Chicago – however, this might not be true after all.
The “revelation” looked quite official actually, stated to be coming straight from Rockstar Games themselves. It also stated that the next game won’t actually be called “Grand Theft Auto 6”, but rather “Grand Theft Auto: Lake City”. There seems to be plausibility to these rumors, and they at least seem credible – however, a closer examination of the situation might indicate otherwise.
The news actually came from a site that’s known for regularly posting satirical content, so it might appear that the whole article has been fake the entire time. Looking through the other materials posted on the website would indicate that they don’t actually take what they’re writing about very seriously, which would raise questions about what was allegedly said by Rockstar. And in the end, the article also named a specific person from the company, none other than Sam Houser, Rockstar’s president.
Now, the article might have been false, but the story certainly doesn’t sound that out of the question. First, it won’t be the first time Rockstar have followed this naming scheme for a game in the franchise, however the previous times it was for an expansion, not a main release like “GTA 6” is supposed to be. Second, Chicago in particular has been mentioned before as a possible location, and it seems that Rockstar are at least considering it as an option, but whether or not the game will actually be based there, it’s a bit early to say.
And in any case, information about the game likely won’t come out in any official form anytime soon. “GTA 5” is still alive and well, and Rockstar are supporting it actively, so it doesn’t make sense for them to start hyping up the next installment in the series so early. Not to mention that the next “GTA” will likely be in development for quite a while before it’s even announced, as the company is generally known for long development cycles when it comes to this franchise, and they always put a lot of polish on “GTA” games.
