Now that Supercell are back from their break, “Clash Royale” players have resumed their talks about the next major update for the game. There are plenty of requests from the community right now, and the developers should probably take some time to sift through all the recent feedback before they proceed. For the most part, players seem concerned with two major issues right now: legendaries and badmouthing opponents.
Supercell did mention that one of their goals for the next major update of the game is to make legendary cards more accessible, but they haven’t revealed their exact plans for that yet. Players have proposed various solutions to the problem, but it’s not really clear how the developers can pull this off without actually devaluing legendaries too much.
The main issue is that the way to obtain a legendary card right now is completely random, and there is no guarantee that a player will get even one of those cards no matter how much time – or money – they’ve invested in the game. Climbing up to the Legendary Arena does give a small chance to see legendary cards in the shop, but that’s it.
Some players have suggested an additional shop slot that’s guaranteed to always contain legendaries, but only becomes available after a certain arena. This might make the cards a little too easy to obtain, on the other hand. That’s the core of the issue as well, as Supercell are walking a very fine line when balancing how easily players can get a legendary card.
Badmouthing has been another hot issue in the community of “Clash Royale” fans. Players have been asking for an option to mute emoticons for a long time now, and Supercell actually responded to say that they have no plans for such a feature. They explained that evoking strong emotions in their players is a major element in the design of the game, and the ability to communicate through emotes plays an important role in that.
Many players claimed that this was a PR way of saying that the game relies too much on frustrating its players in order to force them to spend money on it, and this quickly became a controversial topic in the community. It doesn’t help to look at other similar games either, such as “Hearthstone” where Blizzard have made various changes to curb badmouthing and create a friendlier playing environment for everyone.
A simple option to mute emotes would solve most players’ problems, but it doesn’t seem like the game is going to get it anytime soon. If the issue becomes too serious for Supercell – to the point where it impacts their profits – then maybe, but otherwise we wouldn’t hope too much for it. The studio hasn’t made any further comments after their blog post talking about emotes, so we assume that their stance hasn’t changed.
Other than that, discussions about the game seem focused on the current state of its balance, with some commonly suggested changes to the meta. The Giant could get some debuffs in the next update if Supercell are going to respond to the most common complaints, and we wouldn’t be surprised if Zap was made slightly less useful as well. There are also some common criticisms against the Royal Giant, so we expect to see some changes in that card too.
