“Clash of Clans” players recently had to endure a short forced pause as the game’s servers were taken offline for some maintenance, but according to Supercell, the game’s developer, everything was in order and this was a planned procedure. Apparently, they were actually addressing specific issues with the gameplay, and players should now no longer encounter a couple of annoying bugs that have been frequently reported, related to purchases from the game’s store.
And while bug fixes and balance adjustments are always nice, players of course have been asking about something more substantial, like an actual update with some extra content for the game. We have no official statements from Supercell at this point, but various rumors are indicating that the studio is indeed preparing something behind the scenes, and players might be surprised by the new launch in March.
The rumors more specifically talk about a new unit that could be similar to ones we’ve seen before, and will be based on Dark Elixir. Furthermore, some of those rumors indicate that the unit could actually have a significant impact on the game’s balance, and shouldn’t be taken lightly by players once it’s been released. It will be interesting to see what Supercell have been preparing in secret until now if this turns out to be true, but players should of course remember that this is still an unconfirmed rumor, and as such, should be taken with a grain of salt.
If the new release is going to happen in March, as the rumors are saying, then Supercell will likely reveal some official information about it soon, possibly before the end of this month. They wouldn’t want to wait until the last minute to get the hype machine started, as they will want to make sure that all their players are aware of the new content before it’s out.
And if the update does include a unit with such a major impact on the gameplay, they should be especially eager to showcase it and get everyone excited in time for the official release. The studio has a lot of experience keeping their players hyped, so we expect that the marketing surrounding this release should be something extraordinary.
The studio has been doing a great job finding the right spot for the balance of both “Clash of Clans” and their other popular title, “Boom Beach”. Initially, fans of the company were a bit worried that they are releasing games that look too similar to each other, but it quickly became apparent that both titles had a very specific design direction and were aimed at different crowds. And this has been getting more and more obvious with each update to both games.
The only possible issue right now is that, according to many players, “Clash of Clans” has the tendency to get boring a bit faster than the studio’s other game. Many factors can be attributed to that, but it looks like Supercell have simply managed to perfect the formula for “Boom Beach”. After so many updates to both games, it only makes sense.
With that in mind, some players have suggested that “Clash of Clans” could benefit from “inheriting” certain features from the other game. While this could indeed be a positive move for Supercell, others have pointed out that it could also cause problems by making both games feel less unique. In the end, the studio will have to find a way to keep both games interesting without having one step on the other’s toes.
