There are also reports indicating that Supercell are actually feeling forced to keep “Clash of Clans” running whether they want to or not, as the game has been facing significant competition from “Pokemon GO”.
While there is no direct overlap between the two titles, we can also see how there might be competition between them as well. It will be interesting to see the state of the market a few months from now, and to check if there really has been a loss of interest in “Clash of Clans” balanced by more players joining “Pokemon GO”.
Some rumors also claim that Supercell might even be working on their own game with similar gameplay. The studio has reportedly been hiring developers to work on a new title, but there are no details on it yet.
Since the studio tends to be very savvy with their choice of genres and gameplay concepts, always keeping an active eye on the market, it’s probably not far-fetched to assume that they may want to compete with “Pokemon GO” more directly.
Whether they are capable of doing that or not is a different story, as part of the success of “Pokemon GO” lied in the huge database of geographical information that the developers had readily available from their previous game, “Ingress”. Supercell don’t really have that ace up their sleeve, but it will be interesting to see if the studio might have something else prepared.
