Kim Burgess, played by Marina Squerciati in the American police procedural drama TV series “Chicago PD” on NBC, has been in two relationships during the recently concluded Season 3 of the show.
She was previously engaged to Adam Ruzek, played by Patrick John Flueger, but she decided to call off the engagement upon learning that Ruzek had no plans of marrying her.
Subsequently, she fell for Sean Roman, played by Brian Geraghty. However, Roman decided to leave the Chicago PD during the Season 3 finale that aired on May 25 to concentrate on his full recovery after he was seriously wounded during a shooting which took place in episode 21.
He was given the option to transfer to a less active duty or to quit the force. Roman decided to leave the team instead and just asked his partner and love interest Kim Burgess to join him in San Diego. Despite her special feelings for him, Burgess chose to stay with the Chicago PD.
In real life, Brian Geraghty is also a producer of “Chicago PD.” During the middle of Season 3, he told the showrunner and writers that he wanted to focus on other projects and needed to get out of the show.
That was when the showrunner crafted for him a story arc which allowed his character to exit the series in a dignified manner. They could have opted to kill off his character but the fact that Sean Roman simply moved to another place also opens the door for him for his possible return either as a guest or a series regular once again.
Focusing on being single
While previous reports have been saying that the producers and showrunner are likely to bring in a new partner for Kim Burgess in the upcoming Season 4 of “Chicago PD,” the actress revealed in a recent interview that her character will take a break from the dating scene, notes the Ecumenical News.
Fresh from her character’s breakup with Sean Roman, Squerciati said that her character shall take some time off to reflect about her previous relationships and why they did not work.
Executive producer Matt Olmstead also confirmed the likely storyline for Kim Burgess in “Chicago PD” Season 4. He said that they will have Marina’s character in the TV series lie low for a while to be able to concentrate on her job.
Olmstead said that while nothing is definite at this point considering that it is not even one month since the show aired its Season 3 finale, there is currently a pitch for a vow of celibacy for Kim Burgess for next season.
The showrunner explained that there is a part of Kim Burgess that has to recommit to the job and her next boyfriend is probably going to be the mailman.
Exploring ‘Linstead’ in Season 4
Olmstead also disclosed that Season 4 of “Chicago PD” shall be exploring ‘Linstead’ featuring the most consistent romantic couple of the show in Lindsay Erin, played by Sophia Bush, and Jay Halstead, played by Jesse Lee Soffer.
The executive producer said that they plan to take the Linstead pairing to the next step and dramatize it, which could be a hint that the two might decide to live together next season, reports the Christian Times.
Olmstead said that Halstead is looking to buy a condo and he’s saying his idea to Lindsay as if to insinuate that they live together soon. It would be interesting to find out in Season 4 whether Lindsay will agree to move in with him or Halstead moving in with her instead. But something is bound to give come the fourth season, assures the showrunner.
Fans and viewers of “Chicago PD” thought that the Season 3 finale of the TV series would finally bring a closure to the mystery surrounding the death of the son of Sergeant Henry ‘Hank” Voight, played by Jason Beghe.
