‘Chicago PD’ Season 4 to Feature a New Partner for Kim Burgess Who Would Bring Wind into the Sails of the Show, Says Showrunner!

The Season 3 finale of the American police procedural drama TV series “Chicago PD” aired on NBC on May 25 and it featured the graceful exit of Sean Roman, played by Brian Geraghty, from the show.

Roman decided to leave the Chicago PD to concentrate on his full recovery after he was seriously wounded during a shooting which took place in episode 21.

He was given the option to transfer to a less active duty or to quit the force. Roman decided to leave the team instead and just asked his partner and love interest Kim Burgess, played by Marina Squerciati, to join him in San Diego. Despite her special feelings for him, Burgess chose to stay with the Chicago PD, details the MNR Daily.

In real life, Brian Geraghty is also a producer of “Chicago PD.” During the middle of Season 3, he told the showrunner and writers that he wanted to focus on other projects and needed to get out of the show.

That was when the showrunner crafted for him a story arc which allowed his character to exit the series in a dignified manner. They could have opted to kill off his character but the fact that Sean Roman simply moved to another place also opens the door for him for his possible return either as a guest or a series regular once again.

A gentleman’s agreement from beginning to end

It was actually showrunner Matt Olmstead who confirmed the exit storyline for Geraghty in a recent interview.

He said that they have done enough of people going out with a bullet in the back of the head so they decided to go with Roman just leaving the force instead.

Olmstead said that they are grateful for what Geraghty did and what he brought to the show and also how he conducted himself. He said that it was a gentleman’s agreement at the beginning and a gentleman’s agreement at the end.

The showrunner also revealed that since Burgess will be staying behind, they need to find her a new partner for the upcoming fourth season of “Chicago PD.” He said that they want someone who can bring wind into the sails of the show.

Olmstead did not specifically identify the actor they have in mind but he hinted that they are looking for someone to come in and partner with Burgess to really launch that pairing of two uniforms.

Going on a rampage

Fans and viewers of “Chicago PD” thought that the Season 3 finale of the TV series would finally bring a closure to the mystery surrounding the death of the son of Sergeant Henry ‘Hank” Voight, played by Jason Beghe.

Voight was seen in the Season 3 finale investigating the body of a widow and he soon realized that the victim has a connection with his son Jason, notes the Day Herald.

Before his team from the Chicago PD can get a clue about what was really happening, Voight has started to go on a vigilante mode and began a killing spree to get to the perpetrators who was responsible for the eventual death of his son.

As a character that is obviously being tormented by his past, seeing Voight unleashing his pent up emotions is both heartening and terrifying.

According to reports, Voight would likely continue to show a different side of him in the upcoming fourth season of “Chicago PD” and the viewers would certainly find it unpleasant. The police sergeant has a destructive side and it is likely that he will be toeing the line between right and wrong in Season 4.

  1. I love this show and it’s edginess, voight is truly an ol school throwback cop who lives on the edge, although i hate to see roman leave,I hope that Burgess next partner will not be another love interest, they should incorporate more for jon ceda and laroyce hawkins.
