Season 4 of the American police procedural drama TV series “Chicago PD” premiered on NBC on September 21 and it picked up where the Season 3 finale left off.
It also featured Erin Lindsay, played by Sophia Bush, refusing to spill the beans on Chicago PD Intelligence Unit Sergeant Hank Voight, played by Jason Beghe, for what he did to Justin’s killers.
Justin is the son of Hank Voight and during Season 3, the police sergeant took matters into his own hands and killed those who were responsible for the murder of his son. Lindsay knew what happened but during the subsequent investigation made by Police Commander Crowley, played by Barbara Eve Harris, she decided to cover Voight.
Lindsay denies that anything was wrong even though she keeps looking at Voight pointedly as if castigating him.
She told Crowley that she and the grieving Voight met up and just talked that fateful night, giving the embattled police sergeant the perfect alibi, details TV Line.
But Crowley appears not convinced and even asked Lindsay how much she is going to cover for Voight and stake her career on the line as well as the reputation of the Chicago PD.
The other person who knows
In addition to Lindsay and Voight, the other person who knows of what Voight did is Jay Halstead, played by Jesse Lee Soffer, because Erin shared it with him.
Halstead said that he does not know what to do to help out his girlfriend in the situation, citing that he feels a little handcuffed about it.
But he told him not to let Voight drag her down with him. But from out of the blue, Halstead then asked Lindsay to move in with him justifying it by saying that jobs and bosses come and go but he does not want her to come and go. It was a statement and an offer that was really hard to say no to.
Since there was no body or bodies that were found in the alleged crime, it was really hard for the investigation to progress.
When Voight got cleared up, he went to thank Lindsay in his own way and cried by saying that she has all that is left to him. Although Lindsay embraced him, it was actually her effort to return her favor to him for once saving her life when she was still a teen.
Now that the debt is already paid, things will be different for the pseudo-father and daughter duo of Chicago PD.
Affected by the commander’s dilemma
Before the Season 4 premiere of “Chicago PD,” showrunner Matt Olmstead hinted that the main source of the conflict in the TV series is going to be between Lindsay and Voight.
It can be recalled that Lindsay dissuaded Voight in Season 3 from taking the law into his own hands but he was already determined what he wanted to do to avenge his son’s death.
The rest of the Chicago PD team is also affected and torn, as any cop unit in any city would be if their commanding officer’s son was murdered, explained Olmstead.
The police force is a family and everyone feels for Voight like putting their own in his shoes. But Voight sealed them off intentionally and decided to keep it to himself. He sent everyone to the other side of the town on a wild goose chase and he went the other way to take matters into his own hands, notes TV Guide.
The outlet also predicts that there would be a seismic shift in the relationship of Lindsay and Voight in the rest of Season 4 of “Chicago PD.” After what happened in the premiere episode, many are saying that the relationship of the two will never be the same again.
Fans are also getting excited to the bigger role to be played in the current season by Chicago PD District 21 Desk Sergeant Trudy Platt, played by Amy Morton.
