The show focuses on the lawyers and prosecutors in the Chicago area legal system. On May 12, a day after the backdoor pilot episode aired, “Chicago Justice” was greenlit and was given a series order.
NBC hasn’t labeled the episode as a major crossover event but Taylor Kinney’s Severide and Joe Minoso’s Cruz from “Chicago Fire” showed up to help search for the gun used in the shooting from the bottom of a nearby lake.
Also, Marlyne Barrett’s Maggie from “Chicago Med” made a cameo as she controls the chaos at the hospital when both Roman and the injured teenager are brought into the ER.
However, the focus was really on the Justice team as they dealt with protesters outside District 21, shouting ‘Hands Up, Don’t Shoot!’ which was a nod to the real-world shootings of the unarmed African-Americans that has continued to gain traction in the news cycle since the death of Trayvon Martin back in 2012.
