‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 3 is Still too Early to See ‘Linstead’ Happening Again!

After going off on a blazing start on September 30, the American police procedural drama TV series “Chicago P.D.” on NBC is three episodes into its third season and humming quite nicely.

Fans of the show appreciated that much of the focus of the premiere episode was on former lovers Detective Erin Lindsay, played by Sophia Bush, and Detective Jay Halstead, played by Jesse Lee Soffer.

Collectively, fans call them as ‘Linstead,” and they were quite excited with the sight that the two had some sort of reunion during the premiere episode but not the romantic kind but as part of the call of their duties as police officers.

While fans would love nothing but a romantic reunion or rekindling of the relationship between Lindsay and Halstead, critics believe that it is still too early to see that happening in Season 3 so the showrunners are basically on target with their decision not to force the issue of Linstead right away.

It may be good for the fans, but the relationship may take away the juice of the main plot as well as some of the subplots in Season 3 of “Chicago P.D.”

The journey is more important

According to Cartermatt, it is the journey of Lindsay and Halstead over time that viewers should care about and romance is just one component of that.

They are two of the most popular, if not the most popular characters of “Chicago P.D.” They do care about each other so much so that one is actually willing to put his or her life for the other just like what Erin did for Jay in the premiere episode.

But each has also been through terrible ordeals and is battling their own demons so they have to find themselves first before they go into that much-awaited relationship, which many fans and critics of the TV series believe will eventually happen anyway.

It is quite obvious that the two of them can make each other better and that their relationship has its potential and should be largely anchored on their passion for one another. But it is also obvious that they are both not yet ready. Lindsay should focus more on healing herself before she can focus on having that committed relationship with Jay.

It would not really look good if Lindsay will dive into the relationship because she needs someone to hold on to because that’s the last thing that a true relationship needs for a solid footing.

There are notions even this early that Linstead may eventually end up getting married. That’s a strong possibility indeed but before getting there, a lot of stories and subplots have to be told by the creators so it could come very well as an icing on the cake. In the meantime, Season 3 is too early to even talk about wedding bells, much less a reunion of Linstead.

Excellent ratings

The third episode of “Chicago P.D.” titled “Actual Physical Violence” aired on October 14 has generated 6.6 million viewers, the same number it has for its second episode.

This only means that the show is certainly widely followed because of its very respectable 1.5 rating, notes the Ecumenical News.

The fourth episode to air on October 21 is officially titled “Debts of the Past” and it will feature Sergeant Henry ‘Hank’ Voight, played by Jason Beghe, and the rest of the police department going on a hunt for a criminal who was released from prison on a technicality.

The felon has been targeting cops as a form of revenge. After the criminal attacks Voight and Detective Alvin Olinsky, played by Elias Koteas, Voight uncovers the identity of the felon as James Beckett. He recalled that he actually put Beckett away 15 years ago for triple homicide.
