CDC Ordered Vaccination With The Onset Of The Flu Season, Hospitals Enforce Restrictions. A High Number Of Deaths Reported!

North Carolina was severely affected during the influenza outbreak last year. They had to stop children from entering hospitals to protect them from the disease. James Cox, the vice president and chief operating officer at the Southeastern Regional Medical Center in Lumberton, said that even though it had been a tough winter from December to January, they are working on lifting the restrictions on visitors as soon as possible.

Things are bad even in Michigan. The Kalkaska girls basketball team had to cancel their game last week since almost five of their teammates were down with influenza. Coach Dave Dalton said that the girls were in bad shape.

They were all vomiting and completely bereft of strength. The coach added that he along with the rest of the team have also contacted the virus. What was initially thought to be a case of a stomach virus, turned out to be norovirus.

Dr. Salah Qutaishat, the manager of infection prevention at the Munson Medical Center said that those suffering from norovirus usually show a problematic bowel in the first three days and then things get back to normal.

The gastrointestinal tract returns to normal after a long time. The symptoms are particularly high during the winter months. According to Qutaishat, it is the body’s way of cleaning itself. The body tries to remove the virus.
