Season 8 of the American crime drama TV series “Castle” will premiere on ABC on September 21 and considering how popular the show is, fans are now all over the internet looking for spoilers or any advance information regarding the series that they can get their hands unto.
With the departure during the Season 7 finale of Penny Johnson Jerald as Captain Victoria Gates, her position has been vacated and it looks like Katherine Houghton ‘Kate’ Beckett, played by lead star Stana Katic, will get the promotion.
Alexi Hawley, the new co-showrunner of “Castle,” revealed that Beckett would indeed become the next captain and that the move was meant to shake things up, in terms of plotline possibilities for the TV series.
She added that although Kate has put the mystery of the murder of her mother Joanna behind her, the investigative part of her DNA is still there so she will need to deal with it in a way that impact their relationship, notes TV Line.
Hawley went on to say that Beckett may, at some point, run for office, but for now, she will remain in the precinct, details the Inquisitr.
But Kate’s promotion is likely to cause problems for her relationship with Richard Edgar ‘Rick’ Castle, played by Nathan Fillion, because they have always investigated cases side by side. If Beckett will take the role as captain, their partnership in crime investigation will end. And it would even be difficult for Rick to join in the investigation because he is a private citizen. This will just be among the problems or conflict that the lead couple will face in the upcoming Season 8 of “Castle.”

Nathan Fillion and Stana Katic are both the show’s producers and lead stars and the new poster ot the TV series recently released to further hype the coming of Season 8 featured the two of them as close together as can be.
It does not have a caption or tagline but it did show Kate making a playful yet unreturned glance to Rick.
In a recent interview, Stana Katic also hinted that the season opener will be made of two parts and it shall feature an important event that will spark storyline shifts for much of Season 8 of “Castle.”
It’s always about Rick and Kate
The TV series has been all about the love affair of Rick and Kate while doing crime investigations. To make it further interesting, the showrunners agreed to put some drama and spark to it.
Hawley confirmed that those drama and spark are going to be fun, emotional at times, and also romantic. She said that it will be about everything and fans would love it.
In addition to changes in the workplace, there will also be changes in their personal lives as Rick’s daughter, Alexis, will grow up in a big way. The possibility of Alexis, played by Molly Quinn, having her little sex in the city adventure during the eighth season of the series is very likely. Alexis will also sport a new do as Molly Quinn recently showed off her new shorter hair on her Twitter account last month.
There have been reports that a new addition to the cast members of “Castle” Season 8 will have an impact on the relationship of Rick and Kate but no detail has been released on the identity of the actor or actress who shall take on such role.
However, it has been made clear by Hawley that Hayley Shipton, played by Toks Olagundoye, will not come between Castle and Beckett.
She added that Hayley’s character was never meant to be competition. Although she is a strong, powerful, beautiful and independent woman, and she adds a flavor of that into the show, but she will definitely not compete with Beckett.
