After six episodes of disappointment and dismay, they finally saw the show’s lead stars together for the first time on episode 7 and then on episode 8. Keeping a long gap between episode 8 and episode 9 would surely make the fans frustrated yet again.
Critics believe that “Castle” is just recovering from a series of miscues by the showrunners so fans should not suffer yet again if the network wants to redeem the TV series from its momentary dip in interest.
While it was explained during the seventh episode that Kate decided to break up with Rick so that she could protect him while she goes out to investigate the LokSat/Bracken case, the separation thing was just too much for fans that it was only fitting that a steamy reconnection on the end of episode 7 was in order.
Show creators Winter and Hawley promised viewers before episode 7 that they will see the couple together once again.
The three-week break of the show on air may have given the showrunners enough time to make the adjustments on the Season 8 plotline and hastened the reunion of ‘Caskett’ because apparently the separation has turned off a lot of fans of the show that the TV series experienced a dramatic decline in viewership.
In order to arrest the plummeting ratings and eventually the possible cancellation of “Castle,” the showrunners had to do something drastic by giving in to the fans’ demand.
The show runners said that they were going to “shake things up” in season. They also recognized that the success of the show was due, to a great extent, to the romance of the main couple. So, how did anyone apparently well informed and cognizant of the show’s success factors screw up so badly? After all, the basic Bracken/LokSat case could have been shown more acceptable to the fans by having Caskett handle the case stealthily from the very start. The character Vitram would not have been needed at all. (I do think that in the end he may be found to be tied to LokSat as a member of the organization and whose job is to keep the higher ups in LokSat informed on progress in the case.)
Because the new show runners not think straight. They probably think if they cane backward RC and KB to Season 4, then rebuild these 2 characters in different way, they can win the fame that old show runner screws up entire show and the are the winner.
Unfortunately, they are completely wrong. I just wonder any or many fans starting calling ABC firing them.
