‘Castle’ Season 8 Ratings Hit Rock Bottom Along With Castle and Beckett’s Shaky Relationship!

“Castle” is currently on hiatus and will return for the show’s sixth episode on November 9. It won’t air on November 2 to accommodate the “Countdown to the CMA Awards” special show.

Speaking to TVLine, showrunners reveal some spoilers for the upcoming episodes. According to Winter and Hawley, episode 6 titled “Cool Boys” will see the return of a familiar face. Adam Baldwin will be reprising his role as Ethan Slaughter. The character was last seen back in Season 4.

Showrunners add that there will be a major shift on the show upon its 8th episode, which happens to be the fall finale episode. Titled “Mr. and Mrs. Castle” the two hint that the episode will have something to do with the marriage of the lead characters.

Fans speculate that the twist would involve Rick and Kate not officially married at all. Something went wrong with filing their marriage license so it wasn’t deemed legal. The show being set in New York also fits this theory as the Big Apple is not a common-law marriage state.

While this might be a plausible plot, Hawley and Winter confirm that no divorce between Castle and Beckett will take place this season. However, fans will have to wait before the episode airs to see what fate has in store for the couple.

  1. Let’s see now it is becoming fashionable to blame Monday night football and competition from other shows that is the cause for the poor ratings. Seems like these factors have always been there whether the show was doing great or poorly. Let’s get it right, it’s this decision to split Caskett and nothing else. And “it will only be a matter of time before his wife comes around” but how long when every episode when Kate doesn’t come around costs more viewers.

  2. The ratings were low in the 1 and 2 episodes because all summer the fans knew that castle was the blind spot and were breaking up.Therefore they did not watch.

  3. The show runners said there would be no divorce (if you believe them, which I don’t). Now,however, there are hints that they may not be legally married and you do not need a divorce if you are not legally married. If they even think of trying this ploy I’m definitely leaving. I just wish that I could keep the series but get rid of the show runners.

  4. While it may be true that there is some fan waning, that is not the case for my wife and I. We own all previous 7 seasons of Castle and were looking forward to season 8. Castle is/was our favorite TV show, followed by NCIS. BTW, NCIS is in its 13th season and is doing fine. Castle showrunners need to remember what brought viewers to Castle in the first place. I’m sorry to hear that ABC nearly axed Castle. After this season though, it’s almost guaranteed.

  5. If the twist is either divorce or that their marriage wasn’t legal at all, I think I am done with the show. I like season 8 with the cases and the humor that wasnt there in the past two seasons, but the Kate/Castle separation I am not really liking so much.
I understand Kates reasons for leaving but she could have told Castle what was going on and the two could have worked together to solve this and that would have been epic. Missed opportunity there.
I am going to see the season out until the show has completely lost the plot.
Andrew Marlowe shouldn’t have left. Season 7 was rocky but still enjoyable, but the new show-runners have ruined the show and it will never recover from that, even if they get them back together. The whole separation will still linger there.
Andrew should come back on board and re-write the first half of this season and re-do everything and scrap the episode already aired and start season 8 again and do it properly.

  6. With regard to DVR viewership you are aware that TNT has been running Castle reruns for 3 – 7 hours, Monday through Thursday aren’t you. Ergo I would not anticipate much DVR viewership. Wait you say. You are referring to DVR viewers who record the new Monday show to watch it at leisure later in the week. You mean both of them? I had rather watch old reruns with sense, substance, and love rather than the present fluff.

  7. The age of the show has nothing to do with the ratings drop. The chemistry that was present between Fillion and Katic, on screen, was more than enough to carry the show through eight seasons and then some. The downward spiral began with the episode 6×23. Better known as the crapfest to most fans. Beckett’s backstory that had been canon all the way back to episode 01×02 was blown out of the water and on top of that, the wedding that the fans had spent all season suffering through BORING wedding planning for, didn’t happen because…Well…Castle was the ONLY person that could, as we found out 20 episodes later, SAVE THE WORLD!!! The wedding they did throw in at the last minute, 6 episodes into season 7, was less than memorable, mainly because the phony backdrop overshadowed everything else except, of course, the champagne toast by Martha, Alexis and Jim, Beckett’s ALCOHOLIC father.
I could go on, but won’t. It’s not worth it anymore. I haven’t watched an episode this season and won’t until Castle and Beckett are back together. However, since this ridiculous storyline is supposed to last all season, I won’t hold my breath. I’ll just watch Blindspot.

  8. I hate watching these fluff episodes that do nothing but waste air time and my patience. The only story line they should be using right now would reflect the Caskett love affair, be entertaining and absorbing, involve almost the entire cast, move the series along, strengthen the Caskett marriage and satisfy the fans and keep them coming back for more. What story line you ask. A combined effort by most of the characters to identify, catch and arrest the killer of Beckett’s mother and the partner of Bracken. The way it is now the effort is being handled only by Vikram and Beckett. We will not know who it is until they drag him (or her) into the 12th in handcuffs and say “arrest ’em and read him his rights”. Doing this will waste wonderful opportunities for some great detective work and healing of the Caskett split and strengthening their marriage. Wake up show runners and writers. If you have any talent use it before it is too late.

  9. If they get around the “no divorce “by Mr and Mrs Smithing it I am probably done. The will they get back together or Rick going back to his dating “100’s of super hot models”will not be what I want to see.If it all ties into that disaster of her being married before and paperwork, etc was wrong I am so out of here.
Have the guts to show a married couple that can fight crime and still be wonderful Caskett. This backstory will most likely continue but why not have them fight the bad guys together, they have always been better together fighting the bad guys than apart.Rick grow a set and investigate why Kate is doing what she is doing…..just like you did starting in S1,Kate confide in Rick.
    Fix it please.

  10. The behind the scenes rumours are looking more more to be true about Stana Nathan and that saddens me more than the separation on the show. I think the show as we knew it is gone. What a sad day for castle fans.

  11. I wish people would stop with this stupid rumer that Stana & Nathan do not like each other ! That’s a load of crap ! If she did not like him why did she wish him a happy birthday on Twitter ! It’s all the writers & the Show runner ! Terrence winter & his stupid partner Alexi Hayley ! This is all three doing !
Not Stana & Nathen – God knows when this stupid story arc is going too end ( hopefully soon ) but ? If there not back together by the ep mr & Mrs castle I am done ! I am not waiting a whole season before the get back together ( no way !!) i will watch the blind spot instead !

  12. The Castle/Beckett love story waned in S7. That was the beginning of the silly and inane episodes.
I do not care very much about the separation of the couple and I think it could be tolerated better if there were good, well- written well acted stories.
In S7 episode after episode I kept hoping that the next would be a little better. When that season of Castle was in the past, I then wished that S8 would correct the mistakes of the past season and all would be forgiven. Lo and Behold things worsened. They are confusing inane foolishness with story telling.
Mr Marlowe somehow could detect the gaping holes in a script. He knew his characters. Who are these people play acting Castle and Beckett.
Castle is just a big clown and Beckett and her tendency for good acting has been sidelined in order to push forward slapstick. I won’t call it comedy because it elicits absolutely no amusement.
Now you decide to turn Espo and Ryan into lesser clowns. Sometime Beckett/Stana has a look of What the ‘F’ on her face, feeling what I am thinking.
Stop blaming the ratings on Caskett and lay blame on these terrible scripts pieced together in order to turn the show into buffoonery.
    Congratulation, you have succeeded.
ps: I will not speak of things Alexis. That would just be too mean.

  13. I am an angry viewer because both Alexi Hawley & Terence Paul Winter destroyed Caskett!!! There was no reason to break them up. It was totally unnecessary. They both are oblivious & have no first hand experience of what a sexy, happily married couple is like therefore simply cannot write about it onscreen. This winter break, they better fix Caskett or hire past “Castle” writers with better track records of writing Caskett in their former glory–writing on the strength of Stana Katic & Nathan Fillion’s chemistry…which simply means they must be together onscreen–a writer & his muse happily married solving crimes together. Please fix Caskett.

  14. It’s inaccurate to say the show barely survived season 7. Castle was amongst the first of ABC’s shows to be renewed back in May. Its renewal was announced at the same time as that of shows like Scandal, Grey’s, and Once Upon a Time. Shows like Nashville were on the bubble and would be considered “barely renewed” but it’s inaccurate to put Castle in that same category.

  15. No matter what site offers viewers a chance to comment on Castle – the viewers the viewers say the same thing in unison – the story line folks and writers are terrible and not responsive to viewers – even they speak in unison!
People watch or watched Castle because they loved the stories and the characters (season 1-6). Someone from ABC deserves to be fured for tgheir not being

  16. in my opinion the show should have started with a simple murder which tides to bracken and current villain then bucket makes a choice to stay away from the castle because of villain

this would convince audience why they got separate

  17. Sorry to say it but Castle got shot in the head by Nathan Fillion himself when in July of season 6 he went Diva and threatened to walk off the show if the “Beckett” mytharch wasn’t stopped and the focus of the show become him! In his own words (according to reports at the time): “The show is called Castle, not Beckett!”
So it was changed only to prove the dyed haired, fat and sagging faced Fillion could not deliver! Katic is the better actor and yes the show is called Castle…and it’s about how he found new life in meeting Beckett!
Stick a fork in it cuz it’s too late to save; but the blame goes to Fillion and ABC catering to a Diva which is all Fillion has become!
Stana Katic will continue to excel at acting and producing and Fillion can continue to try to fit into his Firefly costume at comic-cons…if anyone remembers him.

  18. There is no reason for the decline of Castle except for bad writing. I know writers hit blocks and nothing seems new but to bring in two new writers and let them screw with a well run and well loved show is beyond ridiculous. A top tier author years ago had a well written murder series going and she changed agents and they convinced her to kill off one of the main characters. Good bye book sales. She never recovered. Her rating are in the bottom half of 250 top writers but before the death she was in the top 50. Don’t screw with success. Fire the writers and find some that actually may have actually watched the show prior to writing for the show. It’s so close to jumping the shark right now I am not expecting it to make it to season 9 at the rate you are shedding viewers.
