When the American crime drama TV series “Castle” abruptly ended in Season 8, fans and critics assumed that it was forced in such a way to have a happy ending.
After all, previous to its sudden happy ending, ABC has confirmed that “Castle” was renewed for Season 9 minus its female lead star Stana Katic, who played Kate Beckett in the TV series.
Apparently, the fan backlash of the network’s decision to renew the show for a ninth season without Stana Katic on it was too much that it has reconsidered its plan. As a result, the first 40 minutes of the Season 8 finale episode seemed to be on cue as to its pacing, but there came a sudden burst of speed towards the end and fast-forwarded the ending to a seven-year time jump where Rick Castle and Kate Beckett are already happily married and enjoying family life with their three kids.
Subsequently, there were rumors saying that the Season 8 finale ending of “Castle” was not the real scene that the showrunners planned since the show was previously renewed for Season 9.
Executive producers Alexi Hawley and Terrence Paul Winter actually confirmed that they indeed planned and shot an alternative Season 8 ending in the event that Season 9 was greenlit.
Not the scene that fans expected
So when reports started coming out that the home entertainment release of the full Season 8 of “Castle” will soon be hitting the video shelves complete with some deleted scenes and never-before-seen footages, fans and critics immediately jumped to the conclusion that the alternate ending for Season 8 would be one of those.
But apparently, it is not going to be the case. The DVD/Blu-ray release of “Castle” on August 23 shall actually involve scenes that were not shown on TV because of time constraints.
The footages are from the different episodes of Season 8 which is basically a made-for-TV stuff, notes Zap2it.
One of the deleted scenes, for example, is from the Season 8 episode entitled “Dead Red,” and it showed an unsuspecting party-goer getting the wrong type of attention after reaching for his selfie stick to take a picture.
There are still other scenes in the home video including behind-the-scene footages as well as some bloopers of cast members during the filming.
One thing is sure, there is not going to be a scene in the home entertainment release featuring the supposed alternate ending of “Castle” Season 8 as it may just cause frustrations from viewers and critics who were actually hoping to catch one final season of the TV series.
A hilarious scene
There is one deleted and quite hilarious scene that fans did not get to see on “Castle” as released recently.
The scene is part of a Season 8 episode entitled “Dead Again” where a city safety inspector kept on cheating death. While the storyline appears to be really serious, the whole episode was extremely funny, notes Movie News Guide.
In the scene, Caleb was seen walking towards Kate and having a little discussion about work. While Kate’s expression says something else, she makes sure to not say anything directly. Before the situation can go any intense, the focus shifts to Laney’s diagnosis about the safety inspector.
Laney ended up declaring the safety inspector dead twice in the episode. And in both times, the inspector ended up alive and she felt a little embarrassed for it. In the deleted scene, she can be seen entering the picture in a rather embarrassed way when Kate encourages her.
Kate then calmed Laney down. She assured her that the joke will go away soon. She also teased about how Laney can declare a dead guy alive to resolve the matter, while they were both chuckling.
There is also a deleted scene involving LokSat alias Caleb Brown himself having the ease to walk into the precinct and talk to Captain Beckett as if he was not involved with anything.
Beckett’s secret investigation with Vikram must have deduced something about Caleb which is why Kate managed to stay diplomatic in the scene.
In effect, even Caleb during the early stages of Season 8 filming did not know he was to be LokSat and even fans and critics of “Castle” might not have pegged him to the actual bad guy. They believe that the distinction belonged to Senator Bracket.
But just like every twist to the story of “Castle,” Rick and Kate’s actual nemesis was always going to be someone else.
